Selena Gomez is an awful actress.
I have only seen the pilot but there's some reaction shots and her face is just blank.

shareI don’t think anyone has tried claiming she’s some seasoned thespian. But she does have a very likable, vulnerable quality and a realness that comes across nicely on-screen.
In a time where most celebrities are way too arrogant, are in the news for the wrong reasons and seem out of touch with real life....Selena seems like a rare exception. And I’m glad this role found its way to her. It’s fun...and she seems to be having fun.
Most actresses/celebrities her age would probably have said “Steve and Martin WHO?” Whereas I think she appreciates them for the legendary gems that they are.
She’s a rare sweetheart in a land full of a-holes.
That's all irrelevant when it comes to fiction. She was hired only because she would bring a young audience.

There is nothing about this show geared towards young audiences and she isn't the one to do it. As someone already point out, she's not at the top of kids' lists anymore.
She’s actually been in a woody Allen movie so I think casting her as a nyc character is believable. I don’t think the show would be as colorful if was three white old men in upper east side.
And let’s face it they can’t get most of the more popular actresses. Gomez keeps it light.
I feel the same. She seems fairly sensible as a person, which is the sort of quality that doesn't get a lot of publicity.
shareI hardly knew who Selena Gomez was before watching this show, but now I really like her. I think she is ideal for this show, perfectly balancing her crazy counterparts. People, she is supposed to be exactly the way she is! Slightly vulnerable, serious , never smiling but with sarcastic sense of humor. Now I don’t see anyone doing a better job and I can’t wait to see her in the next season.

I think she is managing just fine with the role.
Distractingly bad.
shareEmma Stone would have been better, or anyone else really.
shareHello. I am here solely to ruin this thread with politics.
Blah blah blah politics. Blah blah accusation blah pee pee blah blah.
No, she's not. Granted, I've not seen her in anything else, so my opinion is just based on the first 5 episodes of this show. Her character has a guarded manner and deadpan delivery of some quite funny lines. I think she's fantastic in this and love her interplay with SM and MS.
shareI agree. In the latest episode she met a person from her past and was more open, and it showed.
