'Sorry, I don't date black guys.'

Obviously he's not black so what's the joke? I feel dumb for having to ask this but whatever.

reply

Same deal as the "Mexicans" line in the 2nd

reply

He's foreign. You don't get the joke?

Harold & Kumar 3 11/4/2011
Men in Black 3 5/25/2012

reply

But Kumar isn't foreign, he's an American of Indian origin. I mean, I get the joke but a lot of people were saying it was the best line so I came to see if there was something more to it.

reply

It is satiring the ignorance that young spoiled white women have of culture. Because she is uneducated/ not knowledgable of the many cultures within the United States, she sees only two groups of people white and black.

There’s no one on IMDB I care enough for to use spell check- suck it grammar Nazis

I don't think anyone who spells you with a "u" should be questioning another person's intelligence.

I think he got the joke, hes just wondering why people found it funny. Unless shes mentally retarded, theres no way for her to mistake an indian guy for black

reply

"Unless shes mentally retarded, theres no way for her to mistake an indian guy for black"

Sure there is. They have the same skin tone. Sometimes Indian people have an even DARKER complexion. So if they're walking down the street from afar and you can't see all of their facial traits, from first glance most people would assume that it's a black person.

reply

sure, but the facial traits are VERY different between indians and blacks, indian facial traits are very similar to white peoples, and also indians have straight/wavy hair while blacks have afros.

but still i got the joke and thought it was quite funny.

reply

You're joking...right? Black people like myself come in all different hues, from the lightest of lights to the darkest of darks. Our hair is not always as you say in afros, ours come straight, curly and wavey too. The one thing I can agree with you is that there are definite facial traits that distinguish one culture from the next. I also believed the girl thought Kumar was black because of his skin color alone. I don't think she was racist, Black guys just aren't her preference. But she still was stupid as hell. lol

I believe I'm loved when I'm completely by myself alone...Savage Garden

reply

You consider it Pulitzer material when someone uses the word 'you' vs. just the letter 'u'??? Wow. You're easily impressed.

reply

*beep* you white boi, even my 12 year old brother laughed at this joke

It took you two days to write that? Ugh. You've been eating too much curry, my dumb, black, friend.

reply

Perhaps he's not on here as often as you are. A lot of people still lead useful and productive lives....which means, they don't spend hours upon hours surfing the internet.

reply

Uh-huh. And where's the insult? I live a perfectly productive life, most likely far better than the one you live. I spend a short amount of time on the internet, part of that time I use to check my email which alerts me when I get a response on this forum. See how that works, dummy? There are no '"hours"' involved, unless you are an idiot which seems to be the case with you. Also, he had a steady stream of responses to me previously which leads me to believe I had the poor fella stumped on that last one.

reply

Calling someone a moron isn't a moral, you dunce. Go take a nice bath in the Ganges and debate skin color among other Indians, little black boy.

reply

ouch...you really pegged me with that one. Now go do something useful with your life.

reply

The joke was that the Ukranian-American girl was dumb, that because Kumar was darker skinned she assumed he must be a Black guy. It's a stereotype of certain rich American girls who are not very aware of different people and see the world literally in Black and White. What was funny is she had no problem with the Korean guy Harold.

I found that joke funny, especially Kumar's expression at being called Black. Reminded me of the second film when he said the Black Airport security guy was "hardly even Brown" and more like Matthew Perry than a Black guy.

My friend, who is in his 60s, made the same mistake with an Indian actress in a show. He called her "the black girl..."

I know i'm beyond late but how do spell "you" without "u"

reply

It's just a statement on how a lot of people assume if you're not white, then you're just "black", rarely giving more thought to the idea of different cultures and races. It's an ethnocentric joke, really, an ongoing one throughout the series.

reply

What don't you get about the joke?? It's pretty self explanatory and within context.... Kumar is not black but he has a very dark skin like a black person but he is Indian and maybe it was poking fun at him in real life working for the Obama administration, who the fock knows???

reply

she is a DUMB BLONDE!

Don't you get it?

reply

or a superficial REPUBLICAN or both - a dumb blonde republican

reply

its a funny joke, but in all seriousness, in many parts of the country thats how things work, if you are non white and you are colored doesn't matter if you are native american and technically came here thousands of years before any white person, there are still places in American if you aint white you aint RIGHT!

Just the way it is, and I know you think its 2011, but some places are that backward!

zzZZZZzzzz....as I and many people after me have already explained, it's not that the joke was hard to understand, I just don't get why people find it funny, as you said it is generic and stale. And I guess because YOU haven't seen anyone make those comments YOURSELF, it must mean it never happened. Right? Imbecile.

reply

if u dont think that was funny, dont watch harold/kumar movies or even comedies in general.

Yes, because that joke was so spectacularly funny, the apex of all comedy, the highest plateau that any comic writer could hope to accomplish, that I could NEVER appreciate any comedy if I can't appreciate that.

reply

It's a joke targeting all the ignorant white girls who see things in black and white--they don't know shot from shinola, that's the freakin' joke!!!!

Yes, it does. North American white girls- the repository of all depth, wisdom and eloquence on the planet! Not.
