In the description it says "Having endured his legendary twelve labors, Hercules, the Greek demigod" and right there they're wrong. In Greek mythology, he was called Heracles, and when the Romans took over, their adaption of him was called Hercules but he actually did all his adventures when he was Greek so the movie should be called Heracles.
Does this bother anyone else or is it just me?
Ok, next time I'll go and tell the screenwriter to call him Alkeides, since it was his given name. Who bothers if almost nobody in the audience knows it.
shareJust you OP. Heracles/Hercules-SAME Guy. And most people know him as HERCULES. Just as they know Eros (Greek) as Cupid (Roman).
shareEr... that's what I mean. Hercules is the most known name worldwide, the guy is the same, so screenwriters have all the rights to use it instead of the less known Herakles (or Alkeides, of course).
By the way, "Hercules" is the latin form of the etruscan "hercle", clearly an adaptation of "Herakles". Languages adapt words from the others, even names (in Italy we say "Ercole"). In english, for instance, there's Aristotle, but the original name was Aristoteles. Does it bother anyone? it doesn't bother me.
Who gives a monkey's *beep* just another way to kill an hour or so, entertaining film, take it all with a pinch of blow ! it will not remain embedded in my idetic memory forever, i will not be rushing round to my extensive family to discuss it's inaccuracies, or shouting from a soapbox as to what the director thought he was trying to achieve. it's just another pile of popcorn on the cinema floor. get over it !!!!

sharethe only name that bothers me is the megalomaniac fiennes...he and his big brother are always playing the dastardly villian types because that's all they are capable of doing...and its even more hilarious seeing the 72 year old ian mcshane who should have retired 20 years ago...i give this fiasco a minus 2 for effort
