I've seen the trailers, and my question is
..whether it's too soon for calling for a remake?
That's not what you should be asking. You should be asking for a videotaped version of the Broadway show, recorded live.

I've *begged* for that, but being the avowed and unashamed Capitalist that I am, I get why they don't want to release a pro-shot stage play of Wicked.
I was giving this some thought - When the book Gone With the Wind swept the country, people were screaming for an epic film, and given the outcry, many actors (like Clark Gable) were afraid the event was too big for any actor to do without getting criticism for not living up to the book.
MGM similarly went all out for The Wizard of Oz pumping a lot of money and resources into the film.
Both are timeless classics.
There was a similar demand for Wicked to be made into a film, but whereas MGM through everything they had into getting those 1939 films right (they did), it seems that the studio figures any filming of Wicked will put asses in the seats no matter how bad it is.
And it's too bad, it could have been an epic film in the mold of other great historic Hollywood legends, but this will end up as another Oz the Great and Powerful - a cute film but one that will pretty much fade away.
