Did anyone else hate the play?

I saw the play a year ago and while it's not my normal cup of tea I went into it optimistic based on the good things I had heard. I found the story to be awful, predictable, and the music to be unremarkable as well. Couldn't pay me to go see this after sitting through the play.

Wouldn't say I hated it, but I didn't really care for it and thought it was incredibly overrated. I will say that it had some cool set designs and the acting was great, but I couldn't not get into the story at all and I found the songs to be really forgettable. I'm not planning on seeing the movie since I've already seen the show.

I saw it on Broadway about 10 years ago and I was totally underwhelmed and disappointed, but I probably will go see the movie and hope that I like it better.

I saw the play very young and loved it. The songs Because I Knew You & I'm Not That Girl were quite moving for me and I still listen to them.

Since that was not your question, maybe it has more appeal for females. (I am one) I was with my parents and my father had to get up and thrust his way past half the row to place "important phone calls." I am thinking that was code for, "When will this crap be over?" ;D

Edit: I've no desire to see this 2hr 40min part one re-imagined film.
