I doubt there are enough middle-aged gay men out there to make this a success.

The only people I have ever heard of who read and liked the Wicked books are middle-aged gay guys. Not even teenaged girls are into this stuff. It's strictly for "The Friends of Dorothy".

'It's strictly for "The Friends of Dorothy".'

Do they still use that expression? I haven't heard that in ages!

reply

I'm not sure. Back when this book came out, I was working in a Government Departmental Library and half the other men there were gay, and every one of those gay guys loved and raved about this book. They referred to themselves as "Friends of Dorothy" so that's why it came to mind. BTW, none of the women or straight men employed there seemed to have read or wanted to read it.

You don't think it will be a hit on the Isle of Lesbos?

reply

Maybe, but as far as I have seen, Wizard of Oz is more of a gay man phenomenon.

reply

I'm straight and I've never read Wicked, but I want to see this.

reply

I'm a straight guy who's never read "Wicked", but I did read "The Wizard of Oz" when I was a kid, and I enjoyed the 1939 movie. Gay men don't own it.

reply

No, the original is still a great story, but this sequel definitely seems to be written by and for gays. Like the rainbow, they have hijacked the land of Oz.
