are they trying to be the new Meg Ryan and Tom Hanks?

I'm sure there's a newer/more often connected couple in Hollywood but that's the one that has come to my mind. I'm talking about the fact that Jennifer Lawrence and Bradly Cooper are now in at least three movies together. I have no interest in seeing a single one of those movies. I might have been more interested in one of them if they weren't both staring in them and probably not even then but the fact that they're not expanding their wings by acting with other people turns me of these movies.

Meg Ryan and Tom Hanks were a great couple in the movies and Sleepless in Seattle will always be a timeless classic for me. But they did never make a feature production like the one Cooper and Lawrence will star in together once Serena hits the theaters. It will be dark and as far as you can get from the romantic stratosphere. I for one think that Silver Linings Playbook is a brilliant movie right up there with the likes of When Harry met Sally, Sleepless in Seattle, and Pretty Woman. American Hustle is completely different and I don´t think that they even had that many scenes together [I could be wrong in this regard]. So yes, they have as of now filmed three films together and I for one hope that they won´t stop there . Why don´t you like them together or not at all for that matter?

Oh, and they way I see it, they are expanding all the time. No?
As for Serena, there is no way in knowing how that movie will turn out though. The cast is stellar in my opinion, including the director whose Danish film In a better world is bloody brilliant.

I agree w/Jillian - I think that Cooper/Lawrence have exceptional chemistry together on screen; too bad they aren't a real life couple b/c they look so beautiful together (now that's just my opinion). They truly have something special when they are on screen w/each other - I just love them both. This movie looks very good, and as Jillian said it will have a "dark side" to it, but since I haven't watched the movie yet, I suppose it has something to do w/how much they love each other and nothing will become b/w them. I really can't wait to see this one.

It may seem that way but I think SLP is their strongest film together to date. Looking at how Serena is struggling. ..this is likely to bomb.

I am perplexed about all the delays and the contradictory statements regarding it all, but I am so curious to see the finished result and with this cast it just seems weird that it would be a miss. If nothing else, Bier and Lawrence will work again on another project quite soon, so that is at least a great sign.

Hopefully the trailer to Serena will come out sometime this month. Fingers crossed people!!=-)

If two actors have chemistry, as Lawrence and Cooper have shown, then why mess with it? It's the same basic principle as directors sticking to actors they work well with. Don't fix what ain't broke.

Also, Cooper and Lawrence had very little interaction in American Hustle, so really you should only count them as starring in two movies together. But I digress...

American Hustle for Jennifer and Bradley, is like Sleepless in Seattle for Meg and Tom. This is the middle movie of both pairs and both pairs didn't spend that much time together. That is why they have their 3rd movie for, which they get to spend a lot of time together.

In American Hustle, Jennifer and Bradley have no relationship at all. The main characters are played by Christian Bale and Amy Adams. Lawrence plays Bale's estranged wife while Cooper plays a Fed who is managing the main couple while also harboring a crush on her (or at least, on who he thinks she is...)

Really nothing like Sleepless in Seattle.

I have no idea why you are critiquing when you have not seen one single movie with them together. They have great chemistry in SLP and not much interaction in American Hustle. If they have great chemistry why not. Hepburn & Tracy made 9 movies together from 1942 thru 1967.

Woman of the Year (1942)
Keeper of the Flame (1942)
Without Love (1945)
The Sea of Grass (1946)
State of the Union (1948)
Adam's Rib (1949)
Pat & Mike (1952)
Desk Set (1957)
Guess Who's Coming to Dinner (1967)

There are plenty of people who think that Lawrence and Cooper have zero chemistry, and I am one of them. The pairing seemed random and unbelievable in SLP, as actually are many things in David O.Russell films.

Trailer for Serena shows the same thing: both actors are good at acting and showing passion, somehow it's just hard to believe that they feel that passion for each other. No chemistry whatsoever. Lawrence has some chemistry with Josh Hutcherson though...so in case with Cooper,it's not her, it's them, lol.

Going for the hat trick in the Oscar race! Jennifer Lawrence, unlike Meg Ryan, can act and be more than three dimensional. The chemistry between Cooper and Lawrence is unbelievable and sublime.

They're more like William Powell and Myrna Loy.

The New York Rangers suck. And Sidney Crosby is a cry baby!

reply

Absolutely agree.

be more than three dimensional

Whoa, she can act in the fourth or fifth dimension?

Dang, she is good! 😀

I will give you an interesting answer, contemplate if you like...I'm someone who absolutely can't stand Bradley Cooper as an actor in any role in any movie, yet with Jennifer acting opposite him I'd watch them play 2 rocks getting a suntan! How's that for how much awesomeness these two bring on in each other? I hope they get to play many characters opposite each other and in as many films they can...I'd watch the both of them in anything !

...I wish you love ..

reply

Yeah, Jennifer and Bradley are doing a lot of movies together. People must really like them together.

(I have to agree here I don't like Bradley that much but with Jennifer on the same screen I can pass him.

And NO they are the original Jennifer Lawrence and Bradley Cooper.

reply

They are trying to be the first Jennifer Lawrence and Bradley Cooper.

Stop being ignorant and watch the movies or don't and accept that your opinion is highly flawed.

Silver Linings Playbook was amazing.

American Hustle was great but for the whole movie the screen time amounts to a couple of seconds and one interaction (of sorts) to where Coopers character says "I love it" while Jennifer's character isn't even in ear shot. You would know this if.. I don't know.. You had seen the movie. What one of them should have turned the part down because the other happened to be in the movie? Goodbye Oscar nomination.

Yet to see or know too much about Serena, but going by their past performances together and apart I'm excited.

:)

Yes. Hanks and Ryan are far better actors.

You disagree that Hanks is better than Cooper?

You're arguing that Meg Ryan is better than Lawrence?

reply

Eh, Lawrence is definitely overrated. But Hanks is a truly great actor. Cooper doesn't have his range.

Ah, the old "overrated" ploy, an argument with no substance, difficult to argue against, but in this case impossible to defend. A simple review of the esteem in which Lawrence is held by her peers within the industry belies what one anonymous provocateur on a thread has to say.

And it most certainly is not a rebuttal because the same argument you make for Hanks-Cooper can be made of Lawrence-Ryan: Meg Ryan (as likable as she may be) does not have Jennifer Lawrence's range.

I love Jennifer Lawrence as an actress. I have SLP, American Hustle, Winter's Bone on blu-ray and will have Serena as well. If she is in it, I get it.

She can, however, be overrated. A simple review of the esteem in which she is held by her peers actually supports that. If they hold her in such high regard that it is higher than she deserves then she is overrated. She would be "rated higher than she actually is".

The thing people miss with the term "overrated" is that it seems to be a reflection on the person being rated and not the people doing the rating. If a sports athlete is "overrated" is always comes up as a negative towards him/her. The reality is that they are what they are and the people who determined the player's worth messed up.

But all in all, I agree with you, in part: At this time Cooper isn't in the same class as Hanks. We can revisit the question in about twenty years and see where it stands at that time.
