Couldn't Even Finish It

There's really nothing worse than a bad comedy. A bad drama can at least morph and become funny, but a bad comedy, you just sit and wait for it to become funny. I turned this one off after an hour or so. It was just so mediocre. How many more "wacky spy action comedy" movies are they gonna make? It's a tired concept.

I couldn't finish it either. I totally agree with you. What a waste of a cast.

It's your bad.

I finished it but not in 1 sitting. It was kinda weak & didnt seem all that goot

I dont understand people who walk out of a movie thats crazy! Youre telling me this movie wasnt entertaining at all? I couldnt keep myself from laughing

reply

I don't understand how you can disparage this movie for not being funny enough. It wasn't supposed to be "Animal House" or "The Hangover." It certainly had comedic moments, but I wouldn't describe this as a laugh out loud comedy. It's an action flick first and foremost. Maybe the reason you didn't like it is because of preconceived notions you had about the movie. The movie "Braveheart" had some funny moments, but no one would criticize it for not being funny enough. Had you gone into "Braveheart" expecting to have your sides hurt from laughing, I can see how you might be disappointed by it. But that hardly makes it a bad movie.

reply

I'm honestly baffled by the responses to this movie. I found it so bland and tedious and I couldn't finish it either. I also never heard of it before so I wasn't 'expecting' anything. This movie must agree with people for weird reasons because I just don't get it.

"Did you even watch it?
Or, is your brain so tiny that you couldn't follow the story?"

Eh? Who do you think you're talking to?

Lol funny that you reference Braveheart. That scene where Steven saves Wallace from his would be assassin by throwing that sword into his chest followed shortly afterwards by him saying. "I didn't like him anyway. He wasn't right...In the head" I pretty much doubled over in laughter at that line. Good stuff.

I kind of agree with you :(
I soooo wanted to like this movie, but the comedy felt a bit forced to me and I didn't care much for the plot. For me it was just another one of those spy comedy flicks.

^^^^^I wanted to like it too! Great cast, compelling trailer. I missed it in the theater, rented it for the weekend. I am now *almost* finished. I started this movie about 10 hours ago, got about 30 min. in, switched to college football; came back for another 30 min., cleaned the bathroom; I am now in the final stretch, and came to the message board to see the *good* I must be missing. Perhaps, not much. I should just hit "eject" and be done with it, but I just can't quit Mirren and Malkovich.

Oh well, Stanford extended their winning streak, and I have a sparkly, lemony-fresh shower/bath, so: Thanks, "RED!"

I'm not sure if - by "other" movie - you're referring to Kieslowski's "Red," or Beatty's "Reds." In any case, this IS the film about which I intended to comment. I'm glad you liked it. I didn't. I do agree that it takes a full viewing to adequately review a film, and I did get through it, albeit not easily. But, IMO, general topics/comments on this board should not be discouraged or quashed just because they may not conform to another's idea of the IMDb's purpose.

You're perfectly entitled to dismiss my - or any - opinion that disagrees with your own, and to resort to invective for emphasis. Free expression is an aspect of these boards I argue for all the time. And thick skin is a valuable commodity, no doubt.

I never understood the people, who come to a message board to say that they turned off the movie. I mean, if you don't even want to give the movie time to watch it, why give it time by going to a message board?

Well, I didn't turn it off - I got through it. And, like a 1500 page novel in which the characters, plot, prose style should, but do not combine to make a compelling read, neither did this make for a compelling view. It proved to be the rare film I could not get through in one sitting.

People come to these boards for a number of reasons - not just to review films, discuss celebrities, or call each other names. Sometimes it's to vent disappointment or, in my case, an attempt to understand what I might be missing in a film that had EVERYTHING in its favor, and still failed to connect with me. I didn't find anything on the page, boards or critic's reviews that helped me, but I saw this topic and thought: "At least I'm not alone."

I've never understood how people can use a message board to inhibit - through veiled chastisement - the use a message board, but then that's just me.

Well, I did turn it off. The action is there, so I can see why some are entertained, but it bothered me--the cold-blooded mayhem--and when Victoria says she missed killing people, and took hit jobs on the side, sometimes, I felt pissed. Why watch a movie about murderers who are held up as cool folks?

It is warning to others. "I've wasted my time. My money. The movie is so aggressively bad that I'm calling it a loss rather than finish it."

I need to see about 5 minutes of movie (any 5 minutes) to know if it is quality or crap. You absolutely don't have to watch anything like the whole thing to know if you have a dog on your hands.

reply

ha i just deleted it after 30 minutes. This is the 2nd movie ever that i couldn't watch. It was painfully boring and I was SHOCKED at how poor Bruce Willis was playing his role.
