This movie is much deeper than people give it credit

I noticed that every time a demon attacks any of the main characters, it is always after they say or do something that is evil/bad.

When Jay and Craig are exploring the neighbors house for supplies to bring to the others, its a noble act and they are left undisturbed, UNTIL Jay suggests they abandon their friends and just stay at that house. Craig objects to it, and then a demon runs right into the house.

Jonah Hill says a prayer, but finishes the prayer with asking God to kill Jay just because he doesnt like him. Then that same night a demon visits him and violates him (just like how he violated his prayer with such an evil request).

During the exorcism of Jonah Hill, the prayers from Jay do actually begin to work (despite Jonah cursing and joking like they arent) and it only fails when Jay allows his confidence to waiver because Rogan intervenes claiming its hurting Jonah.

Danny Mcbride is left unharmed despite his refusal to follow God. But one could argue he is left alive longer to be given the chance to repent. Some people take longer to reach. And maybe he is there also to "test" unraptured souls?
