Why cant rossi make an American accent?

So many Australian/NZ/British actors find it incredibly easy to do an American accent. But for some reason - maybe shes dumb - Rossi has created a new, creepy accent that is not American no Australian. She sounds like she just isnt moving the roof of her mouth.

i don't get your problem with her accent
it is freaking great

reply

Agreed. I think it really fits her character, its identity and humor (or non-humor actually). I don't see why it should have anything to do with origins ?

reply

Exactly. Who cares? If anything the Aussie or Brit expat isn't represented enough on TV. There are people who were born or raised overseas who have powerful positions in US companies. Get over it. They tend to develop the weirdest accents over as well, not that I have any problems with Veronica's accent.

I think she does a good job at doing an American accent. After watching her for a few years on "Arrested Development," I never even thought to look up to see if she was originally from somewhere else until I heard her say the word "anything" a few times on "Better off Ted." That's the only word I've noticed that sounds off.

reply

yea, the only word a little off is her 'anything'. the rest is fine.

She may be dumb because she cannot do, to your satisfaction, an American accent? Can you do an accent of someone from another country? I'd say you were dumb for making such a statement.

forgotten...and don't you forget it

Is the OP retarded? I've never even noticed an aussie accent when she talks. What is he complaining about?

reply

its just that she pronounces anything as enathin....which is weird.

reply

First of all, her accent is fine. Like others have said, you can't really tell aside from a few key words. Sounds like normal Portia-hating to me.

Second of all,

She sounds like she just isnt moving the roof of her mouth.
Um, what? You do know that that's not how one makes sounds right? You don't move the roof of your mouth, you move the bottom part of your jaw and your tongue and cheeks. The roof of your mouth stays stable and has nothing to do with it.

Wait, what exactly is an "American" accent? Southern drawl, Midwest flat, New York or Boston? There's more accents in America that I can think of.

I don't hear a problem with the accent, but I'm curious what type you think she should have,

reply

I watched her on Ally McBeal, Arrested, and now on Ted, and, just like another poster, never thought to look up her nationality. As far as I'm concerned, that makes her believable.

She plays pretentious roles, and if the accent sounds a little alien, it just makes those performances all the more believable.
