S2E3: The first episode of this series that I've disliked.

I'm really confused as to how Khan was a world tyrant in the 1990s, but is a kid in 2024. Do they not care about continuity any more at Paramount. They just gonna make shit up for entertainment purpose, and be damned with what's happened?

I'm not even sure why alternate Kirk was in the story, or what timeline he and La'an got thrown into. If I'm correct, she was thrown back in time to his timeline, picked him up for the ride, and carried him back to her timeline? Or where they thrown into a timeline that had to decide which of their timelines was gonna prevail. Hell, I'm not even sure anymore what timeline/universe these shows take place in.

I've complained about this before, but Paramount is stuck in the past with this franchise. How may series are they gonna make to fill in gaps in the past. All they end up doing is screwing up continuity with stories and races that they can't explain the existence of. Picard is the closest to moving forward, and even that show rehashes the same old characters.

Find a way to move on, Paramount.

It's an alternate timeline. FTFY! We can have as many as the producers deem necessary.

And how many alternate timelines do we need in this franchise?

The altered, or perhaps more accurately: corrected, Kahn history happened during Picard.

One note about the timeline: Khan’s origins are somewhat fluid. According to Star Trek: The Original Series Khan is born in 1959 and comes to power in the 1990s. Pragmatically speaking: no one expected Star Trek to continue existing as a franchise for thirty years, let alone sixty. The timelines are changing because the show has to change in order to continue being relevant.

If you want an in-universe explanation, Picard showrunner Terry Matalas points out that historical data from that time may be inaccurate due to the catastrophic third world war that happens in the 21st century. And there’s also the Temporal Cold War from Star Trek: Enterprise which may have altered the timeline.

I can live it, but I don't see why, and am also perturbed that, they felt changing it was an imperative instead of writing to accommodate it. But it doesn't ruin anything for me. Regardless, it's been done now and it turns out Kahn's reign of terror happened sometime after 2021, not the 90s i.e. what they thought they knew during the OG ST era was either wrong, or the Temporal Cold War altered it.

But SNW episode 3 was just following the updated information established in Picard. The blame really lies with Picard's early writers (before the show changed hands and got leaps and bounds better with season 3). The ST shows seem to have course-corrected somewhat.

i dont know why people get so hung up on years and dates, they literally mean nothing storywise, heck in TOS they rather famously never even said what year they were in

why? because it did not matter to the story they were telling

they have constantly changed years and dates in the terminator franchise, and no one complains about that

reply

Because The Terminator franchise doesn't have the following that Star Trek does. Most of those movies are worthless.

reply

The correct timeline was the one presented in "Space Seed". Changing the timeline just because stuff did not happen in real life is dumb. Star Trek is fiction so whether something happened when they said it did nor did not is irrelevant.

reply

Its kind of pointless altering timelines etc in order to change the Eugenic Wars/Khan etc to appease real world events as eventually all of Trek will become incorrect timeline wise
