Didn't like Scarlett Johansson in this movie

Now this my opinion so don't freak out all you SJ fans, I just don't think she really fit in this movie. Number one she's just not as good of an action star as they try to make her out to be, in this film and a couple others. Her stunts are so obviously not her, til they cut in close after the jump or kick is already done and she's practically standing still again. Now I realize stunt players are always used in action films, but alot of action stars do enough of their own stunts to at least make it look believable (like Angelina Jolie). Secondly, her character didn't really fit in the story. She had a small and mostly unimportant role for most of the movie, then all of a sudden at the end she becomes key and saves the day. And Gwenyth Paltrow already fills the role of the important strong woman behind the man, and even though she was promoted to a higher duty, there just didn't seem to be a need for an another woman in his life.

If there's room for more than one man in the movie, I'm pretty sure there's room for more than one woman.

She was there to look good.

Huh! Scarlett was the best part of the movie for me, especially her sequence at the end. Also, I find Pepper Potts generally annoying, so it was quite nice to have Scarlett as Natasha in scenes with Potts. Also, I thought Paltrow was a bit redundant in this movie, whereas Scarlett's character was very integral.

It might be your opinion, but that doesn't mean it can't suck.

The story didn't fit in the story. You xpect a character to? Have you actually watched this movie? Almost none of it fits or makes any sense whatsoever.

It drove Favreau away from wanting to direct another. It pissed off our birdless Russian. Even Mr. stark himself didn't like it.

agree 110%!!! emily blunt would've made the perfect black widow and pulls of her stunts like in edge of tomorrow, too bad they couldn't work something out where she briefly cameos instead like how hawkeye did for thor.

i agree, it's so obvious that sj doesn't do the stunts and it takes me out of the movies. sj portrays widow very wooden/terrible and looks-wise she's too short and not athletic. also she runs funny, and moves so awkwardly stiff and so anti-action star!!! also there's nothing russian about her widow. compare sj's widow running to daisy's character in star wars tfa trailer where daisy runs so so great with style.

many fanboys don't seem to mind sj's poor portrayal since to them they like how she looks in the cat suit.

reply

I disagree. I like her very much. And I reallz y don't get the complaints about her not doing her own stunts. First of all, you don't know how much is her and how much is her stunt double.. Secondly, she is a very graceful and sensual woman and it shows in the movie. I think she is a great black widow. Blunt would be a better Captain Marvel. She is too "sweet" to be black widow.

like the op said the actors in the good action sequences do enough to make it believable like angelina jolie, tom cruise, chris evans and keanu reeves. sj's action scenes aren't believable cos she doesn't do enough.

and u actually know how much they do cos the director really shows their faces like chris evans in tws elevator, keanu reeves in john wick and angelina jolie in salt. there's also longer takes instead of short takes when it's the actor performing the stunts.

emily blunt is not too "sweet", check her out in a devil wears prada. that's the first time i've read someone say emily's too sweet.

widow was marvel's first superheroine, and they dropped the ball when they cast short, unathletic, runs funny sj in it cos she can't pull off her action scenes. takes me out of the movie everytime i see widow in action cos it's so obvious that it's a stunt double. also her portrayal of widow is disappointing from the few comics and cartoons pre-avengers i've read and seen.

reply

Well, that's really your opinion.. And in Prada Blunt plays a snotty, railthin b****. So yeah, that's really not Carol or Black Widow. But never mind she is a great actress and she can definitely pull it off. I just like SarJo better as Widow.

reply

yes my opinion with some facts and truths strewn in. exactly, blunt played a snotty b-tch, very unsweet. widow in the comics was slick and at times can be b-tchy.

i think sj could've played one of those reporters in this movie better.

At the end of the day her action scenes are jump-cut/stunt-double crazy. Sending actors to stunt-school & chronicling their "training" can for the most part be a way to get them in shape/psyched for the role and a part of marketing.

And she runs funny with her arms flailing about. Check out Takeshi's screen grabs from your link, and you'll see it's all stuntwomen. like the op said she doesn't do enough to make it believable for many people, but her assets distract the fanboys.

I'll admit Johansson's first outing as BW didn't really wow me that much, in fact she was probably one of the reasons the movie wasn't all that great but whether you agree with me or not she greatly improved for me at least in The Avengers and Captain America: The Winter Soldier.

reply

I disagree i love her as Black Widow and I enjoyed seeing her in this movie
