65 million years ago we are supposed to believe some other planet had technology as advanced or more advanced than technology we have today? Lol. Just come on. This is what Hollywood is coming up with now?

Why is that laughable? Why would we assume alien races would evolve on the same timeline as us?

Burke is quite correct. Depending on how you want to count, its been about 100,000 years from the first appearance of human beings (homo sapiens) to today. So, theoretically, 640 species could have repeated that feat between 65 million years ago to today. And that is only on earth. For all signs to have been erased to explain why we have no knowledge of them would, of course, reduce that number.

The concept of ancient, now extinct, sapient, non-human species is quite an old one in science fiction. The concept is not at all new.

I haven't seen 65 yet, so I don't know what they exactly did. But there is nothing odd, strange, or illogical with the idea as expressed by the OP.

However, while humans have only been around a couple hundred thousand years, it took us 6 million years to evolve. As mentioned this could still happen several hundred times in the earth's 4.5 billion years of existence.

But time is hardly the main factor, there is a lot of luck and random events that have a far greater effect on the timeline. In our case the meteor clouded the sky, killed off any large or cold blooded animals living on the surface. This was the opening for us smaller mammals to emerge. If it weren't for that meteor, which was specific to our history, we may have been still several million years from yet existing, or not at all.

There are plenty of better complaints.... such as: given all this randomness, the chances than an alien would be "EXACTLY" human looking (assuming he was not really speaking English) is incredulous. Unless there is only one path to intelligent life. At least give him a wacky haircut or clothes, those are purely social constructs.

a million of year is just a blink of eye from the cosmic perspective. Even before the sun (and eventually earth) was born, there were already vast amount of stars which already reached "old" age
