ATM..I'm back

Hello,raiders...maybe i'm doing this right...for those on ATM film picks...let the game begin....

Hello Croft!

Just read this was your pick, and have watched the trailer. Looks like it might be interesting. Hopefully I can find it online somewhere. Maybe you linked to where in the main thread. Will check :)

I first saw this several years ago, interestingly, in the middle of the night in the dead of winter, which really contributed to the ambience of the film and it genuinely creeped me out, especially that white owl ( which really wasn't an owl ) with those black, penetrating eyes.

reply

why did you pick this turkey of a movie ?? just wondering. I will watch it again even though I am not an ATM member.

reply

Why do you think,hownos?

reply

Milla right ??

reply

Jovovich...yep😉

reply

don't mean to rain on your parade but she is not that good an actress

reply

Finally watched this film.

Some parts of this movie were fairly suspenseful. Especially since I have a thunderstorm happening while
watching it. Some of the sessions when they were hypnotized were ok.

The whole premise of making you think it was a true story is preposterous. Having Milla say she and actress.
We already know. Playing the actual recordings at the same time as the movie to make you think it was real.
Way too much going on at one time. The whole scrambled video when the aliens appeared.
Nothing was original in this movie. It has been done before and better.
Milla was as good as she could be. She wasn't given much. She was scared a lot, she cried and screamed.
Sorry croft not one of my favorites.

I won't consider this the worst movie I've ever seen. It wasn't a total loss but I would go below average.

reply

I gave it a 4/10 - didn't think much of it

reply

That's about what I was thinking.

reply

She did what she can with the script that she had...

reply

Totally agree.
This might have sounded great on paper but not so much on the screen.

reply

Actually, I though the scrambled video was one of the few good things about it. It would've been effective if we weren't taken back to the "reenactments".

reply

To me that's always been an easy way out for film makers. We don't have any ideas so we'll just
scramble the video. That way we won't have to actually think of anything intelligent. It's been done way too often.

reply

For this film, I'll take the easy way out. They did have an idea of how to change it up, by cutting to the reenactment. They cut mid-scare!

Also, I think in some cases not having enough information can be just as scary, if not more, as getting all of the information. I mean, it's a guy floating around, with an alien controlling his voice, talking in Sumerian. I don't see how that would've been improved by them not scrambling the video. At least that way I was half engaged in what might be happening, beyond the floating guy talking in Sumerian. And it is consistent with alien technology interfereing with human technology. It's an old trick, but sometimes it fits. IMO.

Why is this film the way that it is?

It went from a straight alien abduction movie, through a fauxcumentary, to an episode of Ancient Aliens /I haven't seen it, but I assume/.

The title cards /or whatever you call those/ were great. We really needed to be told this is "actual audio", or that a name was an "alias". And my personal favourite "Taken by non-human intelligences". What?!

Also, why was the director of this film interviewing the Real Slim Sh... the real Dr. Abigail Tyler for a university?

Plus, why was an expert in Sumerian /a linguist of some kind I assume/ helping with alien stuff?

It tied to be too many things at once, and succeeded in none of them IMO. It would've been much more effective if they'd just used the fake/real footage and made it a straight up fauxcumentary. Those were the only bits that I though were well done. And I found the acting to be much more believable in those as well /well, considering what they were trying to do, maybe that was intentional/.

I'll give them this though. They did try. They went to the trouble to make all that extra footage and what-not. They tried to make it interesting with the splicing of said footage and the editing. So they weren't lazy about it.

Also! I did spot the random Bulgarian /my personal Where's Waldo/. Julian Vergov got to kiss Milla Jovovich's shoulder, so at least one person got something out of this whole thing.

Sorry, croft. This was a miss for me as well :(

reply

No worries,Mina...😉

reply

It makes me wonder if this was the original intent of this director.
It's almost like they did this movie one way then said "well this sucks" then did it another way.
After that one sucked too they decided to take the two and make this finished product.

I think the expert in Sumerian was studying aliens in ancient culture or something like that.

Another random Bulgarian ? I believe we've quite enough of them already.

reply

They were shooting the film in Bulgaria. I don't think they had the budget to make two movies. But all that could've really happened during the writing stage. It's like two different ideas on the same theme, smashed together.

Oh, yeah, they did show us his interest in ancient aliens, with all those very exciting shots of reliefs... In any case, he wasn't very helpful. Also, was any of that information needed for the plot really?

I am very purposeful.

reply

It seemed the expert was put in there to help confirm the alien existence.
Just like the husband killing himself was put in there to confirm that he did it to himself and
wasn't killed by aliens or an intruder. They wanted to say this was an actual experience but still
wanted people to have doubts about it.

"I am very purposeful."
You keep your purpose well hidden.

reply

They shouldn't've made that guy float then, if they wanted it to be ambiguous! I can't...

reply

Or did he float. Hmmmmm.

I get it. I'm just trying to figure out what exactly they were trying to accomplish.
I said two movies you said two ideas. Basically the same thing.
A bad idea that didn't work.

reply

I think the idea wasn't _that_ bad. If they went for more of a satirical tone maybe it would've been better... IDK, I'm trying to figure out the same thing, and I'm not coming up with much lol.
