the entire cast is white. how is it not racist?

i just came back from the movie. leaving aside the fact that its a terrible boardom. not only scarlet jewhanson is white but the entire cast of the movie execpt takashi kitano. all of them white. meaning all the actual charecters witH dialouge. in a movie that takes place in japan. who are asians in this movie? only the hanchmans who serve the rule of dying like pupets by scar jo. what else is asian in this movie? the food. the locations. the city. the names even still asians. a vilian named kuze played by a white guy??? a character named ishikawa played by an australian guy?? this movie is a complete disgrace. granted you can turn one charecter into white but how the hell can you take an obvious japanese anime set in japan and have the entire frikin cast. more then 30 charecters and make them all white. even dragon ball evolution dident do that. what the hell is this shit. haramaki speak in japanese when everyone speak in english? this movie is fucked from the bottom to the top. smart sceintists played by white people and goons 'ith guns by asian actors? fuck outta here with this shit.

I just watched this... The movie is underpopulated in general, not many characters, but while it could have used a few more Japanese characters/actors... it did not come across as racist, but there was something off about the atsmosphere..

It felt at times like a futuristic Hong Kong, rather than a furturistic Japan... Especially with the post-colonial feeling by having a capitalistic arms dealing evil white guy... Japan has a very different atsmosphere from other places in Asia... Even other big Asian cities...

I think a typical 80s movie like Black Rain did a better job of setting the movie in Japan despite having main American characters and actors... But that film wasn't as underpopulated and there were lots more side characters with decent scenes and at least one main Japanese character... It felt like you were in Japan...

So, there is a valid criticism, in terms of aesthetics, yet it isn't to the extent that it justifies some of the more intense posts on this thread... but i guess that's the internet...

ScarJo's boss is Asian. You forgot all about him.

it's pathetic that no one in the modern world seems to understand what the term "Racist" means anymore

Tons of movies with all black casting in them and I couldn't care less because I'm not a racist snowflake like the OP..

It's an American movie designed to appeal to a White Western audience. The cast is mostly White for practical not for ideological reasons. That is a huge difference.

Do you think that if Chinese for example ran the movie industry, overwhelming majority if not entirety of characters would be Chinese? It's only when White people make movies that they have to feature other ethnic groups.

Yes and they would likely also be homophobic, Islamopohoic, anti-democracy, and pro-Communist. What's your point?
