Can anyone give me some other good and inspiring 'based on true story' movies like this.

shareHere are some films I've enjoyed (not all based on true stories) that have similar themes about political corruption, the little man taking on the powers that be etc. Perhaps you will enjoy them too:
Fair Game - The true story of undercover CIA agent Valerie Plane whose identity was leaked by Washington after her husband penned an article in a major newspaper criticizing the Bush administration for their hasty invasion of Iraq.
Changeling - A true story of a 1920s era woman taking on the corrupt LAPD to find out what happened to her son.
Breach - A true story about Robert Hansen, the high ranking F.B.I. traitor who sold thousands of classified documents to the Soviets over a 15 year period, and how he was caught.
The Insider - A true story about Jeffery Wigand, the moral man who blew the whistle on secrets inside major tobacco corporations, and the effect it had on his life afterwards.
Syriana - Clooney film about America's huge oil corporations doing business in the Middle East, and the kinds of things they do to protect their interests overseas.
Enemy of the State - A man accidentally comes into possession of some sensitive and highly damaging information against government officials, and discovers the forces working against him will stop at nothing to ensure the story never gets out.
The International - A good action thriller that deals with corruption inside the world's largest banking organizations.
Hope you enjoy some of these if you haven't seen them already :)
Great call on The Changeling. It certainly isn't one I would have chosen because the emotional punch, and therefor my memory of the film comes from the complete shift in tone during the third act, and I think that's why it really is an underrated film. For fans of cinema who are overly familiar with genre tropes, I think The Changeling really hits you where it hurts because it flips so abruptly from a political thriller to a crime thriller on par with something like Se7en or The Silence of the Lambs. I fondly recall it as such, often forgetting that well over two-thirds of the film act as a political thriller/mystery. In other words, I'm kinda jealous I didn't think to recommend it first.
shareFrost/Nixon
almost exactly like it. simply amazing.
Not a movie but this Unsolved Mysteries episode is one of my favorites.
Danny Casolaro was an investigative reporter found dead near Martinsburg, West Virginia. He was found in the bathroom of his hotel on August 10, 1991, with his wrists slashed. Although the authorities ruled that he committed suicide, his family believes that he was murdered because at the time of his death, he was covering a story on government corruption and conspiracies.
The segment is on YouTube I believe under Danny Casolaro. It's pretty damn interesting as he was getting close to exposing the truth.
Mine too.
I lived in the area (Martinsburg) at the time and we used to eat at the Sheraton every weekend so it made me want to dig further into this -Danny Casolero & the Octopus.
Here are some links-his story is not a movie (YET)

Its all connected.... just check to see who was the Mayor of Martinsburg when the MPD screwed up the investigation of Danny's death and who he works for now...I know I will not be voting for his employer for President based on that alone. I won't mention his name because I know he has a google alert set up.

shareFrom the drugs point of view, "American Gangster" is quite similar, also " Under Fire" about photo- journalists during the Sandinista Revolution in Nicaragua.
shareDouble Crossed (1991) is an awesome HBO movie that tells the story of Barry Seal, one of the drug smugglers bringing in cocaine for the CIA to fund the Contras. Great performance by Dennis Hopper as Barry Seal. http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0101766/?ref_=fn_al_tt_6

Of course Gary Webb was murdered by the CIA and as usual...they made it look like suicide...they do the suicide thing or the one car accident routine. They murdered a woman a few years ago because she had information about prominent politicians. She knew they would make it look like suicide before she could testify and they did. Of course nothing is ever done when the CIA displays it's handy work.
shareAbsolutely:
"Doublecrossed: The Barry Seal Story", made for tv by HBO, starring Dennis Hopper.
That is, if you can find a copy. It involves the drug running into Mena, Arkansas, which---interestingly enough---is currently being re-made starring Tom Cruise.
Unfortunately, a few days ago a pilot was killed while working on the film in Colombia, along with another passenger.
And to this day, there are still people in Mena who clam up at the mention of this subject.
