Best Comedy Of All Time
Apatow is a genius, and Funny People is his masterpiece.
shareI wouldn't say this is the best comedy of all time. Masterpiece, maybe. I can see why somebody might not like this film, dramedies tend not to be as loved as other genres because people generally want to see a funny film without the distraction of drama and vice versa. Also the title mixed with Appatow and Sandlers name attatched you can be forgiven for expecting an out and out comedy.
What I do think about this movie is that it might not be the best Appatow produced/directed comedy, that would probably be Anchorman, but I think it is certainly his best film. Hilarious and moving. The story work perfectly and characters work. The stand up is brilliant and it feels authentic (probably because it is). Even if you don't like the film you cannot disagree that it was shot beautifully.
My rating 9/10.
I have to agree with a lot of the other comments in this thread. Excellent movie, but not the "best comedy of all time".
shareI didnt think this funny at all - I kept waiting for the funny parts, but they were never came. This movie sucked.
"I've got so many complexes."
"No, you don't honey,it's all in you head."
I just recommended this movie to someone. I watched it twice in one weekend, love the jokes, Sandler/Rogen great together, the Thanksgiving scene (wow, you sure know a lot about Delaware) and Bana as the husband.
shareit's aight
Even the most primitive society has an innate respect for the insane.
It's not really a comedy, it's more of a drama about comedians and their different level of success.
But yes it is a great movie. It's essentially quasi-autobiopic about Sandler's career and how he somewhat regrets the decisions he made for the sake of fame and money.
And if you look at his career it's kinda true. He tried doing more serious/rewarding acting in roles like Punch Drunk Love, Spanglish, Reign Over Me and even this film Funny People. All really good roles, all complete box office failures. And this was exactly what this movie was about. It was a statement movie and the cancer metaphor (I'm going to get in trouble for this) are his fans, who can't see him in any other role other than type casting him as that annoying funny guy, It's a shame because the man is actually a pretty good actor and the only thing people want see him in are immature/retarded comedy movies. And that's why this movie is kinda sad in the end because it true... the crowd has spoken.
