What was the point of Homelander killing everyone at the lab?

His alter ego in the mirror told him he needs to go back there to once and for all get rid of his need for love or whatever, he went there killed them and legit nothing changed about him. You could have cut that entire part of the episode out and nothing would be lost to the story.

Homelander is simply mean. He probably kills more people than he actually rescues.

I do think he’s a terrific fictional character though.

reply

Other than getting footage of Homelander covered in blood and smiling that was used for season 4 promos, I don't get how that was supposed to be a pivotal moment for him. He already killed "innocents" people for shock value before that.

reply

Exactly, when he was told to go back there to the beginning to once and for all get rid of his need for love, i figured it was gonna be a huge pivotal moment in his character development. And after dealing with them he was gonna be even more ruthless and not held back by any kind of human emotion and be more dangerous than ever.

But again nothing changed in his character at all, he was still the same, still needed a mommy figure, still playing nice infront of the public, still obsessed with milk, still tip toeing around Ryan playing nice dad to try to win him over.

reply

It was payback, were you paying attention? He did it because he's a psychopath and he could without any worry over the consequences.

reply

They set it up as if it was supposed to be some turning point for his character, like it was the one thing he needed to do to get rid of his need for love, the entire episode was him at the lab, and in the end nothing changed. If he wanted to go kill a bunch of people at the lab who was mean to him he could've done that without a moment of him in the mirror talking to his inner personalities saying it needed to be done to get rid of his human need for love.

Which i'm not even sure how that was supposed to get rid of his need for love by killing some randos who did shit to him at a lab. The writing this season has been dog shit.

reply

"The writing this season has been dog shit."

I certainly agree there!

reply

One of the things we are seeing regularly in the show is that physical super powers don't equate to a similar mental state.

reply

That is the story.

He's a broken man. He was abused from birth and it made him who he is today, and he has spent his entire life trying to come to terms with it. Just like anyone else in a similar real-life situation, he tries to fix what's wrong with him through various versions of "do this and start over," and just like in real-life, it never works.

reply

This season was full of shock content value for nothing. It happens when your story is shit and you need something to fill the time with.

reply

It was completely pointless rubbish written by an amateur who has no idea how to write.

So the lab is one where he was supposedly held and experimented on.

There are no one held there now yet there are like 6 people working there doing what exactly?

There's 1 security guard and no one has access to any compound V.

And who exactly is making compound V and what did Vought do about it or who exactly is Vought or it's labs that make compound V?

The whole thing is really stupid and a joke. There's 100s of these superheroes and they compete to see who makes the cut to be in the seven which was a big deal season 1 but is like laughable now.

And Homelander was supposed to have exorcised something there but didn't despite butchering everyone. And vought does nothing about it

The whole show is really pointless and meaningless and becoming worse than Heroes where they had a good premise and didn't know what to do past S1

reply

It’s just political and violence masturbation for Seth at this point.

Any sort of story arc or meaningful plot is long gone. Now we just play on our phones waiting for the next superhero with a giant penis super power (huh huh 🫤) or for Homelander to shove an elephant up someone’s ass.

We forgot how compelling this show was the first 2 seasons.

Why the hell are you still watching?
