One of the sickest movies I ever saw...

honestly the movie was very interesting and not quite what I expected.
how would I rate this movie? 8 out of 10.
did I enjoy it? absolutely not!

This is one of the sickest movies I ever saw. (#1 is still "Salò, or the 120 Days of Sodom")

What in the world is this movie good for?
Is this what we are supposed to teach our children?
I can't believe someone is spending so much time of his life producing such a movie.

I'm speechless.

I believe this cinema is a work of art and criticism like yours will dissuade people from trying anything novel. Its completely natural for the way Banderas acted in response to the tragedy he faced and sooner or later, he became a victim of his own human frailties and suffered. Honestly, this is as believable a story as anyone else's and adds more to cinematic brilliance rather than the superhero movies.

reply

Not every film is meant for children.

This film is based in reality, more or less so I don't understand how people don't consider the plot very disturbing.

The twist was fantastic and emphasised issues of gender in society/culture. This starts with Robert's Wife Gal and Daughter Vera. Both were seen as sex objects (Zeca running off with Gal, Vicente only wanting to sleep with Vera) and consequently ended in tragedy (Gal disfigured/Vera raped and traumatised). As a result of raping Vera, Vicente was forcibly transformed into a woman removed his power and became a victim (raped by Zeca) and subject to voyeurism by Robert. Ironically the victimisation Vera experienced as a woman drove Robert to inflict similar punishment on Vicente, reaffirming issues of gender regarding women's position in society/culture.

So true... I almost puked.

I don't comprehend what's sick about it when there's no gore and torture like in a lot of crappy horror flicks.

I found it thought provoking and far from being sick.

Maybe the people who found it sick are generally conservative minded and homophobic.

Prejudices are rife obviously on here.

Stick to Disney, wuss!

I don't love her.. She kicked me in the face!!

I did find the rape scene quite unsettling. Good thing if ladies here on the board can watch it without an uneasy stomach. Good for them. But I think this film was somewhat the brainchild of a sexually perverse director (the rape scene i think was a little trashy and somewhat akin to 'The last tango in paris' rape scene, very twisted). Now you may call this film a masterful revenge film, I somewhat agree considering the revenge was well executed. But I still think the director needs corrective sexual therapy. Used too much sexual freedom even for a film (And the actors such as Evana participated similar to Salo or the sara paxton rape scene from the 'The last house on the left'. I agree with the OP. I have seen some *beep* crazy movies such as oldboy, salo, bad taste, pink flamingos, etc. & I have unfortunately come across some disturbing real life rape cases, but I found this movie repulsive on a psychological and sexual level, and I blame the director's perversion for that. Just a personal opinion.

What is this movie good for?

Are you for real?

What was the Exorcist good for? What was the Fly good for? Its cinema. Its art.
And if a good director is involved its even better.

Its your responsibility what you want to teach your children.
The director created this because this is his art. Despite what you think of it.

My mind wanted to melt when I realized the twist. One of the best executed plot turns in movie history.
