Zombies? Why?

Hi!

I'm a huge fan of zombie flicks and the expectations for this movie were huge... but I finished watching the movie and didn't understand why so much hype.
Yes, it was well directed and there was some badass zombies...

But... (may contain spoilers)

1) What is the origin of the zombies?
2) How does the guy who was shot dead become a zombie? It would have been bitten before?
3) Why are the zombies surrounding that particular building?

This was essential for me to enjoy the movie!

Maybe I missed something and would like someone to explain to me.
Sorry for my english :)

Thanks!

"why the z's were drawn/surrounding that particular bld."
Their noses adapt to smell fresh life. If they were really hungry they'd eat each other, makes you wonder they become a collective conscious.

"it's not an INFECTION type movie where the disease is spread by ONLY a bite or fluids exchanged (like 28 DAYS LATER or QUARANTINE)."

It could be an airborne super-bacterium, like in Land of the Dead (2005), at least I think that's what it was in that movie

Regarding that line hidden by the spoilers thing: I thought that was Ironic. I liked it. (But I'm like that)

It made some really interesting scenarios that I'm not sure I've seen in a zombie film before. i.e. the three toying with the female zombie whilst she possibly wails at the severed head of (her ex-lover?), and the betrayal of Ouessem by his own brother Bola, and yet he still loves him enough to extract beautiful face-into-concrete-pillar revenge.

I loved it for what it was. But it wasn't necessarily ground-breaking. Do all zombie films have to revolutionise what it means to be a zombie like 28 Days?
Can't they just have a nice meal with friends?

Yeah, Zombification through biting(unless it was a fatal wound.) and Biblical zombies never mixed, I think. It just doesn't make sense, because the bite implies a biological origin, while a Biblical zombie is "supernatural," and therefore, you probably just need to call the Ghost Busters.

it didn't, they were just very angry people who were still alive, not zombies.

so you are one those retards that get upset about plot holes and really need to have every little detail pointed out and explained in an hour long explaination just so you dont have to think??

who cares what the origin of the zombs is?? maybe hell is full,so the dead walk the earth? maybe the government dropped some chemical weapons on a near by town??? i really dont care - its going to happen in the future - you know its either a virus or hell is full. simple as that. are you really that stupid?

you die, you come back zomb - this would explain the 'hell is full' theory

maybe! just maybe! the zomb's are able to smell living flesh in that building

allah! zombies have more brains than you

Hey asunder, back to your questions:

1) One big mistake from the regular zombies movies is trying to explain the origin of the zombies. Not only the plot gets boring but most of the time it isn't really that important. In this case, they skipped the origin and went right to the zombie killing. Good choice!

2) It could mean that anybody who dies comes back kinda like a pumped zombie (remember how hard was to kill him?)and those who are bitten, gradually turns into zombie so that's why they aren't that strong. Remember, it's a zombie movie: relax and enjoy it!

3) This is actually explained in the movie: the fat old guy blowed up some zombies in the stairways (this was the sound and tremor they felt in the hallway). And following all the clichés in zombies movies: everytime there is a big sound, zombies will always follow!

Hi pedropedrozaa and djblack1313! Thanks for your awnsers.

I didn't had the perception that only people that died turned into zombies. I was looking for a bite or something like that... Well, in that case there were a huge number of deceased outside the building... or, like the other user said, maybe I'm to stupid :)

There are people who can't connect two ideas without offending others. I always thought this was a forum to discuss and ask some questions ... anyway, not even zombie movies can erase that much hatred within.

Peace!

Don't worry pal! In every zombie thread comments can be sometimes a little harsh.

I'm glad you enjoyed the movie, and you may also check "REC" and "REC 2". They're another foreign movies that really gives a new feeling to the zombie genre.

And I love both of them!

I'm from Portugal so I'm very aware of the movies that come from "nuestros hermanos" :)

I think it's good that the reason for the undead is not explained. I liked that about the Romero movies and a few others.

If I had to guess why there were so many zombies around that building I would say it's because there were larger concentrations of people (zombie food) in other areas and as that ran out the zombies moved on. By the time they turned to the scantily inhabited apartment buildings there were a lot of zombies from all the initial victims adding their weight to the throng.

The Internet forum allows things you would never have the balls to say face to face.

1&2 : in more than one Romero movie characters quote a prophecy : "one day, when hell is full, the dead shall walk the earth"

The souls of the dead cannot go to hell, so their bodies reanimate. No matter how they die.

Except that's not the reason they rose in Romero's series. It was just a saying by a Voodoo grandfather.

I like to know the reasons for things too but after watching a few zombie movies it is quickly apparent that the survivors tend to not know *beep* The movies that succumb and offer up a rational explanation tend to be unsatisfying... eg, radioactivity which is really 50s. The virus origin is like new equivalent of radioactivity. And the hell is full crap is basically someone trying to explain something they dunno *beep* about.

reply

Yeah, I agree with you, explanation would be nice. Although I don't think it would be necessary to give 30 minutes of explanation for a zombie movie. Little hints like tv or radio news will sufficient to give you a grip of what is happening. But hey, to each his own.

reply

I cannot provide an explanation to 1, not to mention that as most have pointed out it is but a zombie movie- A really good one IMHO.

But I do wish to say that in my mind this is the natural continuation of "28 Weeks Later". Most aspects match.. ;P
