Movies like this?

I'm a fan of movies with a person or people fighting up ranks to fight one big boss, like in Scott Pilgrim or the game No More Heroes. I was wondering if anyone had any recs for movies like this one.

There are lots of films to look at with this basic premise its been a recurring theme in mainy a kung fu movie but i would recommend something a touch different a western by called The Quick and the Dead this film reminded me of it in places.

Sucker Punched by Zach Snyder. Loaded with interesting actors, visually stunning but no substance. Compelling to watch but left me hollow much like Bunraku.

They haven't got a strict ranking system of the participants like the top ten killers in Bunraku, but I thought of movies like The Tournament and the classic Battle Royale where everyone's fighting against everyone. The weakest ones (or unluckiest ones) are eliminated first and the strongest contenders face off in the end.

It's been a while you wrote this, but try the anime Ninja Scroll if you haven't seen it already. The hero must must fight seven ninjas with demonic powers, one by one, before finally fighting the boss. There's not really a ranking system there though, but then again, none of the movies suggested here have that...

I'm having trouble with a patient of mine; he's a teenage drug addict who's being molested. By me.

I'm also a big fan of No More Heroes and that kind of story in movies. Loved this film. I highly recommend the Japanese film "Branded to Kill" (1967), it's one of my all time favourites.

Although, the closest comparison I can draw to Bunraku, is to the film "Pistol Opera", which is actually the 34-years-later sequel to Branded to Kill, and is also quite awesome.

7 Grandmasters (1977) - Kung fu master and diciples challenging said grandmasters in fights of escalating intensity straight to the top where the strongest one awaits (+ some twists and turns along the way).

Bunraku reminded me of The Big Bang, The Good The Bad And The Weird, and Sin City.

Boycott movies that involve real animal violence! (and their directors too)
