Can anyone suggest some genuinely scary horror movies?

I'm a big horror film fan, just watched this recently and it's the first film in a while to genuinely give me the chills. Now I'm left with a craving for some more really scary films. Just wondering if anyone can suggest some to me, I'm a really big fan of subtle horror, such as that found in Paranormal Activity and Blair Witch Project which are my 2 favourite horror films. I know of all the big name horror films such as The Shining and The Ring (which I actually found quite boring, not scary). So can anyone suggest some subtle scary horror films which are not as well known?
Or just post what you think is the scariest film of all time and I'll look it up.

Thanks to anyone who helps.

Hopefully you still check this. I also love subtle horror so while many people don't know what that even means maybe I can help you.

Lovely Molly
Dead End (2003 - http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0308152/)
Stir of Echoes

Hmmm...

The Ring
Blair Witch Project
All 3 Paranormal Activity films (the first one more than others but the others are good too)
REC
Vacancy
The Strangers
*Both the Strangers and Vacancy have the same vibe to em but Vanancy is a bit more disturbing with some scenes of claustrophobia and the general content
Descent- Again some good claustrophibia in this film. This film is scary even before the creature appear in it. Very well done.
Dawn of the Dead(newer one in 2004 I think)
Psycho- Very scary movie, the slow burn is worth it

My favourite scary movie of all time has to be...

Rosemary's Baby- A lot of suspense in this one and it really slowly creepier and creepier. The ending is just fantastic an left me speechless.

Some recent horror films I liked are:
Insidious- Downright the scariest movie in 2011 for me. The whole recent obsession with Hollywood makeing PG-13 films has really helped the horror genre as this movie is an effective example of how blood and guts do not make a horror movie.
The Woman in Black- Another PG-13 scare fest which stuck with me. I watched this movie again and it still messed me up a lot. The cinematography and set design is also wicked to boot.

Session 9 was fantastic. Could be called slow & quiet, but very good. Excellently disturbing.

The Ruins is a favorite of mine. Unique, well done, freaky.

The remake of Don't Be Afraid of the Dark had me totally freaked out for quite a while. They did a great job with it. I also love the original version from the 70s. The remake was much more its own movie than a straight remake, many changes but a great result. I recommend seeing both versions, and hold them in their own light when you see them without over-comparison.

I have been a fan of horror films since I was a kid and still revel just as much in the excitement, suspense and terror delivered by the best of the genre. It's unfortunate that most of the remakes and sequels of the last decade have stunk and all but stifled the progress that could have been made without them. That's why I love threads like this one. Peoples' lists introduce me to titles I've never heard of which I often end up loving. Some are forgotten classics, others obscure contemporaries.

Sadly however, after scanning through the replies, I always find the same old problem. No matter who started the thread or what movie began the discussion, I can always count on dozens of mean, arrogant, immature people who refuse to respect others' tastes. It's pathetic. There are plenty of movies on these lists that I don't like, but I know there's no point in insulting the people who do like them. What could possibly be gained?

It's my guess that most of those who feel the need to attack others' opinions are all about the same: extremely petty, have no romantic relationships, and can only glean the slimmest sense of what real power is by putting a fellow film fan down. They are miserable little people, no matter how smart or knowledgeable they may actually be. They're liars and cowards with no self control. And they're probably ashamed of their penises.

To those of you who do these things, I have a message for you: No one cares what your story is, what made you how you are. No one thinks you're cool. No one thinks you're smart and nothing you say is impressive. The truth is you really have nothing of substance to say and you know it, which is why you talk trash to complete strangers in the first place. You don't deserve respect or pity. You only deserve to feel bad about yourself, just as you do now. You only deserve to sit on your bum in a dark room and fume over how the whole world is against you and how you have to defend yourself by punching your keyboard really hard.

To put it in terms you might understand better, none of your favorite filmmakers have any interest in meeting you, and even if by some miracle you were given the chance to make a film of your own, you couldn't make one even half as good as any of the ones you put others down for liking. So the next time you feel the venom boiling inside you and you're about to blow up into a tirade of chaos, take a moment to realize how laughable your inability to tolerate any differences really is. Then do the rest of the world a favor by breaking your computer and never setting foot outside so no one else has to endure your whiny, insignificant yapping ever again. Thank you.
