I don't know a lot about this project, but up and coming talent goes overweight to portray famous real life criminal in well received performance....sounds like chopper to me

Chopper was infinitely better than this.
Its an insult to compare the two, quite frankly.
Yeah it is very much like Chopper. It's like a mix of Chopper and A Clockwork Orange, although Chopper was a little better, and ACO is way better. Bronson still had its moments though.
No expectations, no disappointments.
I,d like to put chopper in the same cell as Bronson and see what would happen could be a great film

I loved "Bronson" after the first five minutes and watched it over and over. Then recently I saw "Chopper" and, well, "Bronson" just can't compare anymore. Both are stylish and entertaining, but the persona of Chopper Read was much more compelling than old Charlie B. Both films take heavy artistic license with the facts of their subjects' lives, but the real Chopper possessed a great sense of humor and showmanship that Bronson has never matched. At some point Chopper realized that prison was a dead end and he could become more of a legend as a storyteller and public figure.

While I loved Chopper and liked Bronson a good amount, I think Charlie Bronson's real-life story was just as good, if not, better than Chopper's real-life story. Charles Bronson did some incredible(albeit, crazy) things and possesses strength similar to that of comic book characters. That man can punch through bullet-proof glass! The movie Bronson doesn't quite do the man justice, but it is good in it's own right in my opinion. Tom Hardy has a good personality that he uses to portray the character, the film has great music, looks fantastic, and has a charm to it.
I suggest you guys buy a book or two written by the real Charles Bronson, they are all endlessly interesting and entertaining.
Especially his fitness book: Solitary Fitness.
As for the movies however, Chopper definitely takes the cake I'd say.
I love them both. Been a fan of chopper since i was about 14/15 when it came out. Always rated it 10/10. Went to see Bronson at the cinema, 10/10. They're side by side on my shelf. I'd rate them classics, but its easy to see why people wouldn't like them. I dont like alot of films. It would be boring if we all dug the same stuff.

sharechopper in the film was smarter and funnier. like when told some thugs were going to knock him off he said those (*# couldn't knock the froth from a cup of cappuccino. bronson in film was just a total nut. both films were very well done.

shareAgreed. Last week I watched this with a friend and said the same thing to him. But he hasn't seen Chopper. So when he asked what it's about I could only say 'It's an Australian version of this'.
I remember when I saw Hunger and thought 'Chopper, this . . . it's a shame that the bloke directing Bronson isn't a first-timer as well'. Directorial debuts and breakthrough films about prisoners would make an interesting bill at a festival.
Chopper is defiantly a film that could be a companion piece too this. I would not like too pick which is better of the two, but I do think that Bronson was better acted and visually more impactful.
