Writing went down hill in season 2 (Spoilers)
Perry meets Royal in the past and Royal has no memory of it. Then Perry in the not so distant past stops himself from killing The Tillson brother and nothing in the present changes. Also ret-conning Royals past just to give the sheriff a long winded whole episode where she goes back in time with Indians which had nothing what so ever to do with any of the main story arc. Basically that whole episode was pure filler. I still liked the Twin peaks weirdness of the show and the characters but the writers just didn't seem like they had any real idea where they were headed.
