A lot of people don't know what kind of fauna existed 10,000 years ago. Dinosaurs they would understand, but not sloths, etc.
People will often reject a conclusion they find ridiculous even with evidence. That isn't unusual.
Some will assume its a conspiracy and everything has been set up to deceive them.
