That's how she used to be seen, she attracts the man and perverts him. She's the cause of many sins. It's an old belief of the middle-age, and the legacy of it is still in the unconscious of our minds.

It was a kind of strong superstition, the result of a patriachal Church, in european patriarchal societies. The powerfull Church burnt many witches with it. Now it's very deep rooted, especially in Catholic Europe.

So the woman has a weak spirit, she is prey to the devil, especially in the teen age, and especially if her father raped her and made her pregnant.

All of this is very historic, religious and philisophical, but it's psychological too. A woman becomes the weakness of a man, or she weakens him by her pervertions, when the man is confronted with strong emotions, love, desire, etc...

There's an explaination of it in the film "the name of the rose" of Umberto Eco (writer of the novel) and Jean-Jacques Annaud (director of the film) with Sean Connery. Very good film, watch it !

Basically, whether or not you believe in possession, a lot has to do with hormones and faith. This is why there are more films of female possession based on true stories. However, the film "The Exorcist" was based on the novel about the supposedly true story of a possessed boy named Roland Doe.

Because of sexism in Christian families and sexual abuse.

More males (including a boy) were possessed in this film than females... 
