Wasn’t as good as I thought it would be

I enjoyed the novel as bizarre as it was, I loved Blade Runner 2049 and seeing how Dune has the same director I thought that would be a winning combination. It wasn’t bad just underwhelming IMO.

It wasn't just bad- It WAS TERRIBLE!

Tons of slow walking. Even when they were charging into battle, it was a slow walk.

Wooden acting from everyone. Gurney why aren't you smiling? I am smiling. As he stands there with a frown, but later on in the movie he's all smiles all of the time!

Has there ever been a weaker version of Paul?! Out of the three people who were cast as Paul over the years this is THE MOST sissified version of him. No guts, no presence-NOTHING!

More slow walking!

Terrible green screen work. Everything is a green screen in this. There seem to have been no sets built at all.

The terrible CGI deserts! They couldn't even spend a hundred dollars on a drone, and have it fly over a freakin' desert while filming?

The terrible CGI sandworm. It took almost THREE hours to see a worm and when it finally showed up it was at night in order to hide the horrendous CGI.

Paul constantly zoning off in "deep concentration". Deep concentration my buttocks! He looks like he took one too many valiums!

What a pile of cr@p!

Glad I’m not the only one who feels that way. I found it very boring and considering it’s a Sci fi work with giant sandworms that’s quite the accomplishment. Also it seems they completely changed the character of Chani (think I spelled the correctly) from the novel. I don’t seem to remember her have moral questions over Paul’s actions in the novel.

I think that it is great, like 8/10. I always thought of Villeneuve as a some hipster/poser/wannabe. Suffered thru Enemy and Arrival and Blade Runner left be unamused, but with Dune he nailed it and now I'm reconsidering my opinion of him.

Rarely an adaptation is better than the source material. I finished the book few days ago and there were way too many laughs and cringes. It is like written by a 15 years old for 15 years olds. But the movie made me appreciate the book more. I see now what Herbert had in mind but failed to transfer to paper because his piss poor writing skills failed him. Villeneuve and co managed to repair it.

I also liked that they didn't totally divorced from Lynch's (or rather DeLaurentis') adaptation and kept some elements, like the funky costumes, flying baron, flying lights and did not shy from adding some weirdness (like backpipes). But I think Lynch's worms were way cooler, with their mouths and electrical discharges.
