A boring movie

I saw the movie yesterday. Maybe I was a little bit tired yesterday but it have not enjoyed it.

Read the book and rewatch the movie. You will be surprised.

I am curious now...why?

IMHO, films like this do not work without previous context. There are a lot of unsaid/unseen things that make the full picture. Once you have that expanded vision, it becomes beautiful to watch.

reply

OK thank you for your answer.

reply

It's boring like Arrival&Blade Runner 2049 you were not tired it's just that Villeneuve is a talentless overrated hack

reply

Arrival was great. But BR2049 sucks indeed.

reply

I liked them both. It was a difficult job to make a Blade Runner sequel that doesn't suck balls and I think he managed to do it. Not great, not terrible.

reply

I've decided to avoid mediocre and bad entertainment. Only so much time in the world!

reply

I totally agree, but plenty of us are still suckers for sequels.

Compared to J.J. Abrams, he is Leonardo Da Vinci

reply

Yeah, Denis has long takes that pauses a little to long without moving or deepening the frame. For many viewers without the patience to overlook it, it will seem to drag on. I agree that many will not like it for that choice of style. I'm in conflict myself with whether that's a good move overall.

For many viewers it will tune them out, because nothings really happening because the shot goes on too long. It's like viewing a painting, even though it's film. I certainly agree with you criticism, it won't match the marvel or star wars movies in action.

IMHO, it's wrong to treat Villeneuve's Dune as an sci-fi action movie. It's a depiction of Frank Herbert's vision.

reply

And, unfortunately, it doesn't do even as good a job as the fatally flawed 1984 film in presenting the background needed to understand the story. And Dune '84 did what it did in less than an hour and a half of it's full running time while this one took near to two and a half to get to that point. If this was the first of a three part adaptation of the first novel, I could imagine the background being filled in later, but another similarly superficial, two and a half hours are not going to get the job done.

There is no point making a movie if it can only be understood by reading the book. This Dune was not worth the trouble.

While I agree with you I'm happy I saw the movie (because I read the book thousands of years ago so it was a nice addition on top of that story). TBH I wouldn't mind if he does all books :D
