Either the trailer is not representing the film well or it just doesn't look that good. Was hoping it would at least look appealing. Am thinking now it will probably be a disappointment.
Timothée Chalamet seems half asleep in this. I personally would take Kyle MacLachlan as Paul by a mile. Also, the cinematography is by Greig Fraser who likes to shoot stuff in the dark and drain the color out of everything. Plus, I just don't GET Denis Villeneuve. I served my time by sitting through BR2049 in IMAX. And, I want my almost three hours back! I do not get why he is so popular to studios. His films are so devoid of humanity. Sheesh. I've already given up on this one.
The guy they have playing Paul is a nothing. You can tell from the first shot he has no presence. I'm not the biggest fan of Kyle McLaughlin, but he fit the part to a tee. This guy looks like a reject from a Batman movie.
Oh Christ, pandering to Pink Floyd fans ... this looks sickening, but people will watch the eye-candy and not worry about the actual book, or story, or what it meant to a whole generation of science fiction fans. Yuck!
Just yuck. I like Pink Floyd as much as the next aging hippie, but it's just not soundtrack music. I just don't want to hear it in a movie, homage or not.
I'm seeing a lot of negativity after the trailer... I thought it looks great.
I was excited before but now I'm really looking forward to seeing Dune on the big screen.
I see people complaining about Denis. Saying they did not like BR49... he also made Sicaro which was amazing... and other beautiful movies. I am really looking forward to this one. I love ScyFy if that is a thing still haha but I haven't read Dune, I might read it before the movie drops, and see.
I loved Blade Runner 2049 - I wasn’t a fan of most of DV’s earlier films although I enjoyed Arrival, but I thought BF2049 was unexpectedly marvellous,
I would recommend reading the book. If nothing more, you’ll see what a tricky task Villeneuve has on his hands, and why so many of us are worried whether he can make this work. It’s a VERY difficult text to adapt, complex and dense with themes, characters and events that read beautifully but could so easily come across as silly on screen... we shall see soon.
You might want to read the book after to movie, otherwise the movie could be a let down. Timothy Chalumet to me just doesn't like like royalty, or a leader, or have a noble aquiline bearing ... he looks like a skateboarding druggie. And that hair is stupid for this part. It they're gonna do it, then do it all the way and do it right. Whiny little B didn't want to cut his hair?
I was critical of the first movie, and still am, but it had the images right, it was beautiful in it baroqueness, and the look of inbreeding and paranoia. It really hit the right mood. I don't get that sense here with this in any way.
Mmmm, perhaps you are right and I should read the book before the movie.
But regarding Timothy Chalamet, I quite like him as an actor, also as a royalty or leader, I liked him in King (the Netflix movie).
I've only heard wonderful things about the Dune series, and I would love for the movie to be successful so we can get more movies. successful in terms of good, not only in the money-making successful. Similar to The Lord of the Rings, I remember not everyone was in on it at first.
Will see how the movie goes, and I'll let you know when I've read the first book.
Do you suggest me starting with Dune? or chronological order? any recommendation?
Definitely Dune .... only read the other ones if you cannot not read them. They get really weird and most people who loved Dune did not find the other books very interesting ... including myself.
The trailer is underwhelming on just about every level... I am still looking forward to this, but I have doubts whether non-fans of the book will be encouraged to venture out to watch this based on this trailer. I have no more idea as to whether Villeneuve and co have pulled this difficult adaptation off after viewing this than I did before.
