Why Willis?

Since Roth is actually capable of making violent and kinda edgy films, I do look forward to this. However, I can't help being a bit concerned about the choice of Willis as the leading man. He used to be good, very good, but the guy's old and does not exactly seem to be in great shape. Bronson was in his 50s, but was extremely fit and had an incredible screen presence. I'm not too familiar with Willis' latest work, but what do you guys think? Does he still have it?

reply

Why not? It's acting, he'll be fine. Was supposed to be Stallone, which would've been better? Willis or Stallone?

reply

Stallone is older than the pope....at least Bruno Willis is a little younger and doesn't wear a wig.

reply

In Hollywood, you can get 'fit' if the role demands it...Willis is an older badass just like Charlie Bronson was, he'll probably do fine.

I mean heck, Liam Neeson is now thought of as an action star, which didn't happen until he was in his late 50s.

Whose idea was it for the word "Lisp" to have an "S" in it?

reply

I guess my problem is that I don't really consider Willis as a badass anymore. I feel he's just another bald, old man though I might be underestimating him. If they had to go for a not-so-badass-actor, I wish they would choose someone like Gary Oldman whom at least is an incredible actor. As for Neeson, I think he looks way better than Willis these days while at the same time being a better actor.

reply

Oldman would be great.

But remember, we're talking Death Wish here....Bronson was in great shape for his age, but he wasn't exactly a handsome fellow himself.

I think Josh Brolin would've made a good Paul Kersey. I still think Willis will be just fine.

err name me one Eli Roth film thats anywhere near Death Wish. His films arnt terrible adn are quite enjoyable but they are all dark comedies. Bruce willis has gotten lazy with his roles last few years but he has got it in him which cant really be said of ELi Roth.

reply

I think Willis is too much of a stuntcasting choice though. Like as in we expect him to be cast in a movie like this.

It would have better if they got an actor you wouldn't normally expect, like someone like Brian Cranston, or a choice like that.

reply

I would've liked to see someone like Cranston as well.. OR a complete unknown. Willis looks too much of a tough guy to convince us that his character is going through a 'vigilante' transformation.

reply

He does have the acting chops for the role and if this is not a movie he is just doing for the cash(which he pretty much does anything these days),then yes I think he will still have it. Fire With Fire(2012) I thought was a good film hes done in recent years

Ask the guards, they'll deny it. Ask the inmates here—they'll cut their tongues out before they talk

Willis kick ass choice. Can't wait!

His films are down-market. Have you seen Vice? I thought Terry O'Quinn would make a great Paul Kersey.

I think you have to look at the role. Paul Kersey is/was not the punisher or Navy Seal type....in the beginning anyway. He was a middle age or older Husband and father. Living his day to day life working in his office.
