3 Yrs Have Passed Already...

...I guess he lied about coming back. But seriously, it's an amazing movie. Not sure if they'll make a sequel but I hope they do. Unfortunately the plot can't move forward without undermining the main principles it had established with the social commentary angle. That is if they decided to have some elements of an alien invasion revenge to it.

Yes it is true that 3 years has passed already. Dawned unreliable prawns always naive and lying.

I bet Christopher used up the fuel so quickly on the way back home that he used it all up before reaching the destination. So there he is with his son drifting in the void forever more.

the fuel was to get back up to the mother ship not to get home with

reply

Don't agree entirely.. if the mothership did not need the fuel then why didn't the prawns just leave Earth in the first place? Why did they even need to land on Earth?

reply

The "Fuel" was really aboard the whole time since it came from alien materials, obviously all alien materials came from that mothership. A race capable of any level of interstellar travel would never be threatened by us, nor would they simply allow themselves to run out of all resources while conveniently landing here, just "hovering" a massive mothership above a city, just the gravity manipulation and technology stemming from that alone would make them dominant almost instantly.

reply

The dropship/control ship was the "brains" of the mothership. It couldn't break orbit without the control ship or whatever they called it. The control ship needed the fuel to get to the mothership, but from there the mothership had all it needed. The aliens were like a hive. They show the inside of that ship and they're all like scattered confused insects. The mothersship was probably completely automated for all we know and Chris was the only smart one around to keep it all together - or maybe there were more smart ones at first, who knows.. That's all part of what makes this movie great!

And as far as a sequel, I never really expected one. At least not one with them returning for revenge. A) It will probably take them 100+ years to reach their destination and B) Revenge just doesn't seem like a priority to them.

Something about what happens to Wikus would be nice though. If he gets cured or dies or lives in hiding for the rest of his life. He is the last prawn on earth so I would imagine someone would snag him up eventually and disect him.

reply

I hope they really don't try to make a sequel. The best part about this film is the fact that you don't know for sure whether Christopher was going to be true to his word or not. Deep down, you hope he keeps his word to Wickus, but it's ambiguous. There's that hope that the alien can be kinder to Wickus than Wickus was being to him.

Well said, unfortunately we never know? Hollywood might want to cash in on those principles.

Yes, you're right. They usually do.

Of course he will get back (or attempt to, al least) because he wants to save his people. If he didn't go to his home planet with them, it was because he couldn't relocate all of them to the mothership in time and/or without alerting human authorities which very likely didn't want it to leave.

I heard that now that Elysium is done Neill Blomkamp is now writing the District 10 script and if it is made, it is far, far away.

reply

I guess it is up to the viewers to decide. I honestly don't think Christopher would not return. Especially after seeing what was being done to his race. Not to mention I feel he owes Wikus everything for being able to leave and would do anything to honor his debt.

District 10 LOL

what ?

what ?

reply

The meaning of 9 in District 9 is the prawns lives there. You are confusing it with the sequential numbers mostly done in movie titles like Ramboo I, Ramboo II, etc.

reply

When they evicted the prawns they moved them from District 9 to District 10. It says so in the movie. The sequel's title is appropriate.

Say what again. SAY WHAT AGAIN!!

And yes, it would make sense to name it District 10. The movie itself mentions the relocation to District 10 at the end.

Between the second and fourth movies, the aliens will somehow die off and be replaced with poor people instead. Because I don't recall there being any aliens where Katniss came from ;D

Is Wikus totaly turn into a prawn?

reply

Who knows, maybe there is a difference in the length of prawn years, to human years,...

reply

What is Christopher Johnson said is true, we can see in his expression when he said "3 years, i promise"

reply

Yes, Wikus is totally turn into a prawn - he was the prawn shown at the end of the movie, he is making a metal rose for his wife.

They can write the sequel so it picks up literally the same day. They don't have to follow our time line in the real world.

I had to kill Bob Morton because he made a mistake. Now it's time to erase that mistake

reply

It's 3 years one way.

Best comment ever.

Maybe Christopher had to deal with bureaucratic nonsense in his home planet, before he could assemble a rescue mission. It could show that the Prawn government is not so different from ours.
