Why does the South African accent sound so evil?
It sounds like a person with a German accent trying to sound do a British accent.

shareThe Bloody Boers were always a problem. Churchill knew!
Seriously, they sound like they know what they are doing.
Afrikaners came from the Netherlands...
Their accent is not a derivative of German trying to sound English.
It is no more evil sounding than any other accent in the world...
That's because the lead actor is really an Anglo who can't even do a proper Afrikaner accent.
shareWho Sharlto? He's South African.
shareThat's not the same as being an "Afrikaner".
shareHe is an Afrikaner. You said he's Anglo that usually means a white American.
shareNo, he's an Anglo-African.
There are more English-speaking countries in the world, you know. In South Africa "Anglo" refers to Anglo-Africans.
But he's still Afrikaans.
shareHis accent always sounded to me like he was an English South African who went to an Afrikaans school. There is more than one South African accent. The Dutch Afrikaans communities have a very strong accent, but in cities like Durban and Joberg, not as much.
My partner's family are English South African and they all have different accents. His mom is very English. His dad is a mix of English and Afrikaner. His kids went to Afrikaans school and sound very Afrikaans. His brother and niece and nephew went to English school and sound more English. My partner hasn't lived in SA for awhile and people have no idea where he is from. Even when we go back to visit. He sounds very English South African to me, but when we are there he sounds a little more Australian, but not really at all.
How dare you say that blicky.
