Who actually watches this show?
This show was never funny. Why was it so popular?

Hell, we INVENTED the laugh track.
So you had to watch the whole series to gain the option it wasn’t funny or popular. You wasted all your time watching and now waste it posting online to complain about the reunion? Hmm yeah that makes sense
shareBecause it was funny. Duh.
shareI DO...WHEN IT WAS FRESH AND MY DVD BOXSET HAS GOTTEN THREE PLAYS SO FAR...VERY FUNNY SITCOM.
shareSTILL one of the top 5 funniest sitcoms ever made, in 2021. Best sitcom of the 90's, for sure. Yes, better than Seinfeld.
share👍
shareMuch better than Seinfeld.
Could never get into it.
On the opposite side of the coin, I loved Seinfeld and could never get into Friends. Although I do like the actors.
shareI love both 'Seinfeld' and 'Friends,' but I think 'Friends' has aged much better, and I get way more laughs out of rewatching it now.
When I rewatch 'Seinfeld' now, I can't help thinking of it as a much much much more tame version of 'Curb Your Enthusiasm.' It's still one of the best sitcoms ever, but Larry David kind of hurt it's rewatch value for me by overshadowing the hell out of it with his follow-up series.
You obviously never watched Cheers, or Wings, and that’s just for broadcast network comedies. On cable, The Larry Sanders Show and Curb Your Enthusiasm mop the floor with Friends.
I’m surprised you didn’t tell us about how much you loved Mad About You.
'Cheers' is also one of the greatest of all time, but it is an 80's sitcom. It started in the early 80's and ran for 8 years in the 80's, and then only for a couple years in the 90's.
'Wings,' to me, was a third-rate copycat of 'Cheers,' and I never liked it.
'Curb Your Enthusiasm' is amazing, but its a 2000's sitcom. AND a 2010s sitcom. And now a 2020s sitcom, lol. But it's definitely not a 90's sitcom.
And I never watched 'Larry Sanders' because we didn't have cable when I was a kid. I've always meant to check it out on HBOMax, though. Maybe I'll start tonight.
EDIT: 'Mad About You' was ok sometimes, but it wouldn't crack my top 50 list of sitcoms, along with 'Wings'.
Good question. Sometimes I have to point to my own pseudo-intellectual tendencies that have little basis in learning, but when I first heard the show title, saw the cast and heard the premise, I was turned off. Pretty, young people and their silly problems trying to all live in the same home. Complications and hi-jinks ensue.
One day I was hanging around with an attractive young lady, younger than I, the type who is challenged by the TV crossword puzzle, and an ep' of Friends is on the TV at the bar, and she exclaims to me - wouldn't it be great to live like these people? One of those moments when you need to hide your actual reaction and just say something to get along.
Of course, the show was ubiquitous so I've seen little parts here and there, but I don't think I've ever sat through a whole episode.
