Warner Bros gets burned again

First they lose 200 million by giving Wachowskis a complete freedom to do whatever the hell they wanted with Matrix 4 (to the point where they fourth-wall bluntly shit all over WB in some scenes), and now Todd Philips decides to screw them as well because it's a cool thing to do.

Some think it's cute and funny to flip off the big studios, but we're about to head back to the good ol' times where directors had zero artistic decision making power and the studio executives controlled every piece of production like a vicious hawks.

Everyone loves to bitch and complain about the studios being so evil and not letting talented directors thrive, but this right here is the reason why we can't have nice things.

they can't really complain after the critical and commercial success of the first one

It's been kind of a rough year for them.

Furiosa, The Watchers, Horizon, and now this all flopped.

Twisters did well domestically, but after international gross looks like it will just break even.

Beetlejuice has been a hit and Trap did well, but they only distributed that one.

Furiosa deserved better. The rest were garbage or meh.

My theory is that WB approached the Wachos and said, "We want to make a Matrix 4." They said, "Not interested, we're done with that." WB said, "Well, we're making Matrix 4 whether you're in or not, we were just hoping you'd be into it." The younger one said "Count me out." The older one (who I'm guessing was probably the one who was most responsible for the inception and creation of the whole Matrix concept) said, "OK, OK, OK. I don't want to do it, but if there has to be a Matrix 4 then I'd rather it be made by me rather than some hired gun. But I want full control and I want that in writing." WB: "No problem, here you go!" And then they proceeded to make WB eat shit. I hated the movie, but if my theory is true, well, I'm glad it was a piece of crap.

Sorry for being OT, if I ever bother to see Joker 2 I'll comment on topic.
