See the "Real Thing" for the Lucille Ball and Jon Peters Sequences
A couple of scenes in PTA's "Licorice Pizza" are from real historical events.
And you can see them on YouTube.
ONE: The early scene where Gary goes to New York to appear in a musical number for a movie called "Under One Roof" dancing with an older comedienne named "Lucy Doolittle"
Can be seen in a YouTube clip "Lucille Ball Ed Sullivan Yours, Mine and Ours." Same routine. Gary's stuff was added for Licorice Pizza.
Also: they call the movie "Under One Roof" in Licorice Pizza but in Licorice Pizza they are still singing "Yours Mine and OUrs."
TWO: When Jon Peters keeps correcting Gary:
Peters: Barbra Streisand.
Gary: Barbra Steizand.
Peters: Streisand
...you can see the REAL Barbara Streisand correct director Peter Bogdanovich in the trailer for the 1972 comedy What's Up Doc , (on YouTube) just not for as long.
That's a funny trailer, by the way. A "mock serious" narrator overdoes the serious narration. The trailer also shows how, back in the 70's (when Licorice Pizza was set) , a new breed of movie directors were shown in their trailers "just like stars." It didn't last very long for Bogdanovich.
That is all.
