Why did it receive only 47% RT score?
The film is solid. It kept me at the edge of my seat, despite it's somber and restrained direction. It was the story that had me interested all the way. It made me feel angry about the Reconstruction, and the small subplot happening several decades in the future, in the Jim Crow era, I thought was spot on. And it was based on the true story and it didn't seem it tried to embellish it with contrived plot twists and additional set pieces.
