Sure it's not a big "wow" kind of a movie but it does give good insight in a little bit of history

Agreed
McConaughy was great and continues to get better with age...i really am starting to admire this guy's work
The issue of race was well represented (i enjoyed how some people got along fine but others were hateful assholes...seemed pretty true to history imo)
And the action/war/ambush scenes were pretty well coreographed and harrowing...
Good movie!

I know Serenity (2019) was almost universally panned but did you check that out? I really like that McConaughey flick.

It was wacky and overloaded with tropes and genre ideas but I did find it enjoyable

I agree. I recorded the film on TV and couldn't decide whether to watch it or not as it had received decidedly mixed reviews. I am very glad I decided to give it a go.

Yes it is and also yes on providing a different perspective on that segment of history.
