A ban on gas-pwered cars in ten years? Compuslory service in exchange...

college tuition?

I'm paraphrasing here, but that's essentially two pieces of Morris' platform.

Disclaimer: I'm an independent, I don't take a side. I love political thrillers, I don't care what party's the target.

I thought Ides of March was fantastic. I loved it. That said, I didn't feel that Morris' was a believable character, especially when they trotted out pieces of his platform (like those stated above) that are utterly ludicrous. How did he ever think he would get elected president with policies like that?

It took me right out of the story, and I even chuckled at the "ban on gas-powered cars" line. Especially since we later see Morris riding in a gigantic, gas-powered, ozone-destroying, carbon-emitting bus, and later still in an SUV.

I just wish they brought Morris back down to earth, and didn't make him sound so ridiculous. I wish he were more believable.

Thoughts? Opinions?

Morris didn't propose banning internal combustion vehicles. He said "no new internal combustion vehicles would be produced".

I am a liberal, and I would support this candidate's policies; but I do admit they are unlikely to get someone elected in the actual country we live in. The only way to take him seriously is to imagine an alternate universe in which the country is much more liberal.

I think these somewhat over the top political platforms where added to the script to show they don't really matter, the story was that elections are based on popularity and other perceptions of the candidates (you can start a war, you can't date an intern) and how support is manipulated, bought and sold, behind the scenes.

Early replies to this thread believed forcing people to give up gasoline and mandating citizens to public service were unconstitutional. This movie was made before the Supreme court ruled Obamacare with it's mandatory health insurance enrollment
constitutional. When Obama first ran for office he promised to put the coal industry out of business. This movie was written by progessive Obama lovers.

That's just my two cents.

I thought it was amusing also, especially since everyone talked like it was a foregone conclusion that he would become president.
