is there a dragon FAQ?

I got so many questions...

do dragons have sexes , if not why only some can lay eggs?
is Daenerys the only one to bond/claim more than one dragons, why only one dragon for each Targaryen, why cant he/she claim another one or more later? Also why cant a dragon have multiple riders?

How were the dragons named?
why dragons must obey their rider's command even if it may be suicidal?
eg , rider commanding his smaller dragon to attack a larger one

Well as far as Daenerys goes, they hatched alongside her when she tried to die by burning herself in that funeral pyre so I never thought about it until HOTD came along. It wasn’t an issue to be thought about in GOT but now again with HOTD that tells you that they have to be claimed by a rider, I’m guessing that since they were with Dany since “birth” that they were all hers by virtue of her being their “mom”. Besides Drogon, I’m not sure she rode them all, but she could command them all nonetheless. In HOTD they just retconned that bullshit where they’re saying one dragon a person and that they have to be claimed by the “right” person at that.

In answer to another of your questions, no the dragons in HOTD don’t obey all commands and on more than one occasion this show shows us that they don’t. It makes me wonder what you were watching that everyone else wasn’t. Vhaegar killed poor Luke despite Aemond commanding him in vain not to. Luke’s dragon went after Vhaegar against his commands which really was crazy but much like us, they get excited or enraged where they just brush off what their rider instructs at times and act on their own instincts, you know, again much like us.

Must they obey a command, even if it’s “suicidal?” Well in just this weeks episode you saw the opposite of that where what Vhaegar wanted to do on his own was suicidal by chasing that guy on his dragon straight to where Rhaeneyra was waiting with her dragon and Vermithor which was a trap. Aemond who knew better had to really try to get him to listen to him and turn around so that was a case of Vhaegar being more suicidal than his rider. Again weren’t you watching that before you posted this question?

As for me, I wouldn’t take anything presented to you in HOTD as canon. But that’s just my take on it.

i guess Vheagar only saw Silverwing or its just being confident due to its sheer size. Anyway the dragons would still obey their rider commands to a certain extend when there isnt like any magic involved.

I'm about 99% sure Daenerys knew she wouldnt die in that funeral pyre because she discovered her immunity a while back. It was all about showmanship and theatrics for the Dothraki to fully embrace her as their God-queen or whatever.

These are educated guesses from watching the shows, articles, & YT vids (I've only read the first three GoT books).

1. Dragons are technically genderless but are referred to as both male & female. In GoT Danny's dragons are referred to as male. In HotD, Vhagar (who laid eggs in the past) is considered female. One theory is that dragons can change genders as the need arises.
2. Idk if Danny was the only person to claim more than one dragon, my guess would be yes, but if it happened in the ancient past was extremely rare.
3. Perhaps Danny was a special circumstance bc she was the only Targaryen present when the three eggs hatched. They (3 dragons + Danny) were all "born" of fire together almost like quintuplets so perhaps their bonding was innate.
4. Up to the events of HotD the tradition has always been one dragon per Targaryen. The Targaryen's were conquerors so they would want as many loyal riders as possible to expand & maintain rule over Westeros. One person w/ multiple dragons can only be in one place at a time. It's hard enough to control one dragon (ie. Aemond/Vhagar vs Luke/Arrax). Sometimes Danny's dragons would nip & bicker with each other & they were essentially "family." So I'd imagine it would keep other dragons more calm if they didn't have to worry about a posse of dragons ganging up on them.
4. Often the names translated from Valerian describe their appearance. According to A Wiki of Ice & Fire, Aegon's dragon Sunfyre "had gleaming gold scales, which shone like beaten gold in the sunlight...his flames were golden as well."
5. Idk but my guess would be kind of like how cavalry horses will charge into a row of pikeman, expect much more aggressive. True warriors accept their own death in battle as inevitable. Dragons are fire & blood warriors bonded to their rider whom they have a natural urge to keep alive even if it leads to death.

Yeah. I was actually surprised when One-Eyed killed younger son of Rhaenyra and his dragon.

Why would dragons killed their own? Do they have no connection to each other? I though they had like a bond. They sleep in one cave and ride next to each other when 2 targariens fly somewhere.

And then suddenly they are ordered to kill their buddies. Their own. How that even happens? I mean there are some movements to ride and turn dragons like people do with horses. But how can human order dragon to kill other dragon?

It was never said they have telepathic connection.
