Kinda manipulative **Spoiler**

The show obviously wants you to root for notdaenerys and side against daemon. They make him out to be this brash and overly violent guy before the issue of heir comes up. And of course notdaenerys is going to achieve something no other could by getting the egg without a hitch.

Thats probably what RR Martin wrote in Fire and Blood but I'd rather have it where both present themselves as reasonable heirs and the audience has a chance to choose rather than being told right off the bad that one is good, the other bad.

I don't get the impression that Daemon would go against Rhaenerya.

Well it's a basic story telling technique to have a protagonist and an antagonist going up against each other. If they were besties and decided to share the throne it wouldn't be very interesting would it.

Feeling torn between the two of them, liking both but knowing that both can't survive, can also be decent to watch.

I’m not inclined to agree with you ultra. Daemon I thought was going to be the hands on heavy in this but from what I’ve seen of him thus far he’s not. He wouldn’t hurt Rhaenerya, when push came to shove, when she went to retrieve the egg. Her dragon is nothing against his, if he wanted he could’ve taken her.

He didn’t kill Otto right then & there when he could’ve & they were the ones who made a move first, to his lady. He sort of stuck up for his brother to Lord Corlys when he criticized him. He was the one who had to tell Rhaenerya to comfort her father when the queen died. He’s strong, fearless & a fighter. I’m not sure he’s supposed to the hands on “favorite” for the villain in this show.

It's Game of Thrones, are we supposed to root for anyone?

The way I see it, before this is over, they're all going to be flawed characters in one way or another. And that's fine by me. In fact, this might be the only thing that keeps me watching to be honest.

I was not that impressed with episode 3. The only thing that might save HOTD is an all out fight for the throne by numerous characters.

In the very first episode they make it clear there is more to Daemon than just being the bad guy. Like in the celebration scene, he isn't really celebrating when everyone else around him was. The scene cuts out during certain parts of his speech and we only hear the King being told what he said. Instead of making him to be the bad guy, it puts more suspicion on the people around the king who try to push him into making decisions.
