Plot Contrivance to Get Statham Involved...
I wanted to half-watch a dumb movie, and I got one. I did not, however, track Statham's involvement.
After the first act, there's a flashback showing Statham's right-hand guy urgently asking the boss for help with a job that's only a few blocks away. Statham just has to report which direction the truck turns.
ETA: TENTATIVELY SOLVED moviechatterer (below) deduces that these are separate crews with different techniques. Statham's people will hit the truck further along the route, so they need the turn direction. The crew that performs the robbery presumably possesses inside information so they're all set up. Statham's kid is in the wrong place at the wrong time.
The rest of my OP follows for posterity.
This does not make sense to me on several levels.
1) They're already set up for the direction the truck turns. I doubt they have redundant equipment set up for the other route, nor could they get personnel over there. The simplest solution is to just block off that route.
2) Even though a scout is not necessary, why are they relying on organized crime? This is supposed to be a tight crew?
3) Since Statham's people know this crew, why is it such a mystery to find out who pulled off the job?
What am I missing? Because this makes about as much sense as loading $180M into a Prius.
