Creepiest movie ever?

How can anyone seriously like this movie? It had little to no point and the main character was so incredibly creepy and a huge douchebag.... How the heck do these nice looking women like this creepy SOB? The brunette I understand had family ties with him but she seemed to genuinely like him for some strange reason...

I don't really want a super happy story with a fairy tale stereotypical ending but there was really NO POINT to this movie at all....Can somebody explain how this has high ratings?

Also, does anyone else think this movie was really just creepy?

reply

Creepy? Why?
I don't think the movie is creepy at all. It's honest.
Things like this happens everyday. People get married, but not for love. People are unhappy but they hide it well. People take the easy way out, but they know it will hurt them in the end.
I think the ending of the movie was good.
He made the right choice even though it didn't make him happy. He was better off without Michelle because two destructive people can't survive together.

Antonio G hit it right on the head.
THe movie makes people uncomfortable because I think we ALL know someone or several people who have made decisions just like this. I think it was completely realistic.

I understand not liking the movie, but to ask what the point of it was makes you look not very bright.

Thats not fair mihajlo, someone can see a film and dislike and not understand and be completely justified for either. i LOVED this film, and to be honest im still not sure why, thats not a joke or an insult to the film, im honestly not sure what it is about this movie that im so connected to but i am. obviously the acting by everyone especially Jaoquin is amazing but its something else about it. so for the same reason someone is entitled to dislike a film, or may miss the point and it doesnt make them stupid, dont be so quick to judge people

Realistic? Yes.
His choice? No.

People have different opinions.

>It had little to no point
What do you mean by point? It was a depiction.

>and the main character was so incredibly creepy and a huge douchebag....
So what? Go see Avatar!

>How the heck do these nice looking women like this creepy SOB? The brunette I understand had family ties with him but she seemed to genuinely like him for some strange reason...
Perhaps people in your environnment behave differently. How old are you by the way? It is in no way unrealistic. Even if it was ...

See above

>Also, does anyone else think this movie was really just creepy?
Yes, extremely.

Well done konnes. Rationality must win out or we'll all doomed.

It's real life, and characters that behave like real people: fall in love with others for no reason that can be rationally explained or understood, make crazy decisions, persevere in errors...

reply

Realistic it may be, but claustrophobically so...and it was in no way uplifting or educational.

I cannot see a woman falling for this guy in real life, though - he looks and behaves (and dresses...) like the eternal bachelors I know at work.

He's a loser and a coward, he's not a man with a lot of backbone. Emotionally scarred, yes, I don't hold that against him, but extremely needy and delusional to boot. Hm. So he learns that life is about taking the safe bet and not offing yourself...okay...:-)

A depiction it may be, a realness factor it may have, it was still a bit useless, so I can relate to the OP's pov.

It was extremely predictable, too. And clichéd. I knew it wasn't going to end "well", even if it was...a bit depressing, really.

"Creepy" is such a creepy choice of word to describe this film.

"a malcontent who knows how to spell"

First off, I liked the movie. It was well made (I loved the mood in the restaurant scene), had good performances and a few outstanding scenes (the goodbye to the mother). I don't think Leonard was a douchebag at all, he just wanted to be happy without other people deciding for him.

However, I do agree he was really creepy at times. I thought he was going to kill Michelle in that one scene. Maybe that's because of Joaquin Phoenix's naturally threatening features. Somehow it's hard to have him look soft and fragile. Even when crying, it looks like he might snap at any time and just smack someone. But that's not his fault, he's a great actor.

Creepy no. A little funny in the head yes, I couldn't understand why so many women were after him, perhaps the social connections of his family?
