Good movie in all respects, except one...
Would give this movie a 10/10, but I must lower it to a 1/10 due to the race of the main character. Way to blow it.

shareAnd here we go again...
07/08/06... 786... the sentinel of Allah has arrived.
I know right, they should have casted an alien, what were they thinking!
shareyou're just another imbecile who doesn't even know what Dragon Ball is.
shareYou're full of it. An Asian Goku would not have saved this steaming pile of skunk ejaculation.
shareHope you're just trolling, otherwise your comment would make absolutely no sense.
shareMy son used to watch all the Dragonball cartoon series so I saw a fair number of them. Was Goku's natural form not a giant monkey (I believe he was based on Monkey King from the Tripitaka Journey to the West).Did he not cut off his tail to stay "human"?

While it's a nice and detailed explanation, you went overboard with it. You needlessly mentioned a bunch of spoilers there that others who have not read the original comic or watched the show would see and get ruined. The first two sentences were enough to answer tedeadite's question without spoilers.
shareUh ...what? You can't spoil a 20 yrs old show with something like that... In any case , i've watched dragon ball series at least 3 times and i enjoyed it just as much as the first time.
shareThe definition of a spoiler is elements of a story being spoiled, which means that it has nothing to do with age and it has nothing to do with how you personally feel about re-watching a show (literally zero connection to whether or not you spoiled the story for someone else). Stop spoiling and only directly answer the question (his natural state is human, full moon = monkey). You wouldn't like it if someone spoiled a story you were interested in.

Your grammar is bad and your logic is even worse.
shareGoku really isnt any race. he's not even human, he's an alien so he has no real race or nationality. and race with anime is overplayed. most anime characters look more white than Asian, and plenty are intended too. and unless the plot directly states that they're Japanese, then it really doesnt matter.
sharesame argument from a racist cracker. the first half saying he is not even human. the second half say he is white. make up your mind cracker just like all those other racist cracker before you.
sharethis reply was so moronic that it's going to be difficult to dumb it down enough for you to understand, but I'll try.
1- way to be that *beep* calling others racists WHILE BEING THE MOST RACIST PERSON IN THE DISCUSSION. but you're probably to stupid to realize that.
2- I dont even know why you're assuming I'm white, I'm mixed btw
3- I never said he was white. I said that many anime characters look white. this isnt racist, it's just a general (and common) observation. look at it objectively. anime characters typically have round eyes, and colorful hair and eyes. very few Asians have these traits, but many white people do. Thats not necessarily to say that they are un-Japanese looking, but they definitely dont look more Japanese than white. And like i said, some of them are supposed to be white. Most of the characters from Full Metal Alchemist and Trigun are intended to be white. and you can notice that these "white" characters dont look any different from the "Japanese" characters from other series. My whole point was that they can be either one. They dont really look more one race than the other (though there is a solid argument that the look slightly more white than asian). Unless the anime directly says that they are Japanese or from Japan, then they dont have to be asian. and if it is not directly specified, then it really doesnt matter. film maker are generally going to cater to their audience. If an ambiguous character is viewed in america or europe, then they may think of the character as white, if they view them in asia, they may think of them as asian.

Yes you are being racist. Saying "very few Asians" have round eyes is nothing but a racist stereotype. Just because anime characters don't resemble the racist caricatures you think Asian people look like doesn't make them white. And white people DO NOT have the huge eyes you see in cartoons. No human being does.
It's the same with American cartoons. The characters in Family Guy have their body parts distorted to all kinds of unrealistic shapes and proportions. And how about the Simpsons with their yellow skin? Should Asian people play them in a live action adaptation?
And so Governor Devlin, because even the cost of freedom can be too high, I REFUSE your pardon!
- I'm not being racist, I'm stating observable and objective facts. Asian people have less round eyes and non asians. saying that that statement is racists is like saying that black people have darer skin than non blacks is racist. it's not racist, it's just true. that doesnt mean it's true for all of them, it's just a common trait. if we didnt have different traits then we wouldnt have different races. People get way too touchy with this subject. anything that says one race is in any way different from another is racist. thats a crap use of the word. Racist is treating one race as being superior to another. learn what racist means before you throw it around.
- I didnt say that anime characters are not asian or that they specifically look non asian. I'm just saying that most of them do not look more asian than white, that there is ambiguity.
- "And how about the Simpsons with their yellow skin? Should Asian people play them in a live action adaptation?"
if the movie is made by asians and for asians, then yes. Movies are made for enjoyment by the audience. most movie makers cater them to their target market. if the source material is white but the movie is made in asia, then the characters would likely be made asian, and same visa versa.
You aren't being objective at all, just racist. Did you not hear me the first time? "Asian people have less round eyes" is a RACIST STEREOTYPE. What are you going to say next, that they have huge buck teeth and tiny genitals? It's more equivalent to saying black people have big lips, which yeah, is pretty much also considered nothing but a racist stereotype.
And no, I mean a Simpsons movie made here in America.
And so Governor Devlin, because even the cost of freedom can be too high, I REFUSE your pardon!
you are entirely off base. I seriously think that you don't know what racist is. you're probably one of those overly PC people that takes offense to everything. the eyes are not a "racist stereotype" it is objectively true. meaning that it is clearly observable from just about anyone. there is nothing racist about saying it. Are you saying that they don't look any different than other races? you can tell the difference between an asian and a white person fairly easily. If you filled a room with 10 average white people and 10 average asians and asked someone to sort them by race then I guarantee you 9/10 people would get at least 9/10 correct. The fact is that there is a difference in the way certain races look. and there is nothing wrong with that. you making a big deal about could be viewed as far more racist. By being upset by someone that says asians have less round eyes you act as if this trait makes them inferior, which it doesnt. I'm not saying that whites are better than asians because they have round eyes, I'm just saying that they are slightly physiologically different. I'm being objective in noting the difference, you are being subjective by inferring emotion and attitude. I'll say this one last time, it is not racist to note a physiological variation. it would be racist to infer something about that person for this variation, but that is not the case. I'm not saying that there is anything wrong with not having round eyes, I myself don't even have very round eyes.
shareExcept that eyes have nothing to do with that identification. Asian people who get that special surgery do not come out of it looking white. They're still clearly obviously Asian. And you have white people with some of the smallest and slantiest eyes around (see Clint Eastwood, Tom Cruise, Josh Hartnett, etc). Nobody mistakes them for anything but white.
And so Governor Devlin, because even the cost of freedom can be too high, I REFUSE your pardon!
it is funny about those racist cracker. they will say that goku is white since he have big eye that only white ppl can have yet they will say white men can hair black hair just like goku. those cracker love to stereotype every one exept there own cracker ass. do those cracker really think they are the only race born to not have stereotype? they think that since they think being white make them 'normal'. they think goku is white since they are racist pig.
shareUgh, seriously? This crap again? Go tell Star Wars fans that Luke Skywalker is an alien and it's okay for a non-white actor to play him in the next movie and let me know what response you get.
And so Governor Devlin, because even the cost of freedom can be too high, I REFUSE your pardon!
thats not a good example because it was originally a live action movie and they had to cast someone for the role. btw I'm perfectly fine with you saying Skywalker isnt white. He's played by a white character, he looks white, but in a way he kinda isnt. I wouldnt care what race he was played by. He ended up 'being white' because it was an american made movie.
I get what you guys are saying. DBZ is a Japanese show. but the MOVIE which is being discussed was american made and thusly made for their audience. if the movie was made by a Japanese production then he would be japanese and no one would object. my point is that the source material, especially when it's ambiguous, doesnt matter much. movies will be made to cater to the target audience.
How about Superman then?
And as for your "american made and thusly made for their audience" bullsh*t, you mean the same audience that VOTED A BLACK MAN PRESIDENT? This movie was a HUGE flop anyway.
And so Governor Devlin, because even the cost of freedom can be too high, I REFUSE your pardon!
what does Obama being elected or the movie flopping have to do with anything
shareYou're saying that Americans are racist and only support white people. Not true in the slightest. As for flopping, it obviously shows that they did not "cater to their target audience" if said audience rejected the film.
And so Governor Devlin, because even the cost of freedom can be too high, I REFUSE your pardon!
I did not say that Americans are racists or that they only support white people. you are making obscene declarations and twisting the point.
People enjoy movies better if they connect with the characters. If you make the characters look more like them, then it's easier to connect with them. this isnt a white or american thing, this is a human thing. We prefer things and people that are like us because it makes it easier to connect and relate. the fact that the movie bomb means nothing. the movie was terribly made. it failed in many aspects. tons of movies fail. there are box office bombs every year. the fact that this one movie bombed means nothing.
And those people are called RACISTS. What the hell does "look more like" even mean anyway? There are a million ways someone could look similar or different to someone else. In my eyes, someone of a different race but the same build as me looks closer to me than someone of the same race but the opposite build. And what about genders? A woman of my race does not "look like me" more than a man of a different race and it would be completely asinine to argue otherwise.
And how you think "it makes it easier to connect and relate" is even more ridiculous. Movies that star animal characters do well and people relate to them just fine. Back to the Simpsons, they look nothing like white people and yet it's the most successful TV show ever.
And so Governor Devlin, because even the cost of freedom can be too high, I REFUSE your pardon!
So the OP is saying that he knows nothing about DBZ?
Goku was an alien not a human from Japan. If you think the way Goku looks is the only thing that lets this film down, you need medical help.
funny how these cracker is so eager to call goku a raceless alien (but will insist that a white man be goku in a movie) yet they will never call superman a raceless alien. i guess a cartoon character is a raceless alien as long as a white man can steal him and turn him white.
