Tim
Does anyone else find Tim overly irritating? I don't see the point of his character.
shareI guess they felt that they had to give us one annoying male character.
Tim is greedy, blunt to the point of wondering why someone doesn't just pop him, egotistical, and only caring about himself.
They've blotted the character of Tim so badly that he has pretty much no redeeming qualities. He's allowed to say whatever he wants without consequences. Only Jack is able to deal with him, to a point.
Katherine MacGregor (Mrs. Oleson) of "Little House on the Prairie" said, "it's fine to have an antagonist who is mean and causes problems so long as you make to sure to make the character likable in some way. You don't want the audience to completely hate the character." This is one of the reasons they wrote some funny scenes in the show (Mrs. Oleson being chased by dog, snide remarks by her husband, etc.).
How a family would actually put up with someone like that for 10 Seasons without anyone ever saying anything or talking to him about it, is beyond me. It's just one of the problems that the show has with character development. It's also very unrealistic.

Not really. Tim is unfiltered and speaks his mind when needed.
shareit's not difficult to see where Lou inherited all her annoying aspects and flaws from...
shareAt least Tim sometimes makes valid points whereas Lou is just constantly bitching about everything for no good reason. Lou ruined her own marriage, although, to be fair, Peter wasn't completely innocent either as he was offered a job near his family and he refused it.
I mean, a lot of bosses/managers/supervisors are dicks and that's how they are, so one's gotta make the best of it and not allow them to break oneself's mental strength otherwise that job won't last long. But, there's always a tipping point to how much a person can take their crap without getting pissed off.
