I think they let anyone who's good at cheerleading do it regardless of looks, it is supposed to be "sport" or whatever and sports aren't won by looks.

Looks doesn't even come into play, that's just what "Bring It On" and other movies liked it showed the world.
It's a legit sport and it's basically all about skills.
Unless the coaches bring politics into play, but that's true with any sport.
