Rocky on skis!
Did this film remind anyone else of Rocky? Especially the training montage and the final scene freeze frame air punch?

Not rocky but our other great British film billy Elliot.
shareYes, pretty much. And it's awesome for it.

This movie actually reminded me of 2 movies(directed by the same person, no less), Rocky and Karate Kid.
Except that, in Rocky, the protag might be an underdog but pulls a very solid performance against the world champion(not to mention the sequels where he becomes a champion himself).
Karate Kid, on the other hand, is practically the polar opposite, that teaches you that, with 2 months of training, an awesome asian teacher, and a magic crane move, you can actually beat kids that have probably trained since they were 5. :D If Eddie the Eagle was written like Karate Kid, his coach would have tought him an unorthodox but super-effective ancient technique that triples your jump and he would have beaten Matti. :D
Just once I'd like to see a sports movie where people don't immediately say 'IT'S LIKE 'ROCKY' BUT WITH SOMETHING TOTALLY UNRELATED TO 'ROCKY'!'
Is that the only point of reference you have regarding sports films? Or is it simply the most popular?
Not really.
I remember Eddie the Eagle from the 1988 Winter Olympics and Rocky was the last thing on my mind.
It's that man again!!
