Why did they change the ending???????

One of the things I love most about Jodi Picoult books is the twist at the end. I can't wait to see the spin she puts at the end of her books. And this one had a HUGE twist. I think I cried for 3 days after reading it. So why would Hollywood think that this happy ending would improve the storyline? Anyone who reads J.P. knows that there is going to be a surprise at the end. Is there anyone who agrees with me, don't mess with the endings to her stories!!!

Yeah the book ending was better IMO anyway since terminally ill character who dies at the end, has been done so many times however in a way I'm glad the film gave Anna a better ending because in the book I thought she got such a bum deal, her whole life she was used for spare parts for Kate, and because of that her parents selfishly decided that she couldn't do any of the things that typical kids do out of fear that she'll get hurt and therefore can't be used for "parts," and then she dies and STILL gets used for parts! I thought that was awful and Anna had such a terrible life at least this ending gave her life some hope.

"That was the sickest thing I've seen on TV, and I watch Dance Moms"

I'm laughing at all the people who bitch about a "typical, fairytale Hollywood ending" where apparently nothing is realistic, and then complain that this movie takes a more realistic route with Kate's fate.

Oh my god, If that is the ending of the book I'm glad I haven't read it. I would gave been furious.

I was very pissed off at the twist ending when I finished the book way back when it had made me seething with rage but I realized later that it was actually perfect I mean it was a heart wrenching finale but it drove the point home that sometimes life just isn't fair and things don't always go how you planned them to go. The movie ending just didn't work for me it didn't really make me feel anything it just was. I mean I think changing the ending changes the entire story into something it isn't. I understand why some might like the film version because it's more realistic but I prefer the book and how that made me feel.

If they had kept the book's ending, I guarantee that a lot of people would have been turned off by it and as a result, people would not have wanted to see it. I read the book, too, and it was a shock. However, while the young protagonist with an ending like that would work in a book, but not in a movie. I'm guessing that's the reason why they changed it.

So, in the book, did the mother feel any grief for the loss of her younger daughter, or did she feel that her job was done, and it didn't matter any longer? Did she just take the win and was happy?

That's what we need - ridiculous odds, and just a speck of hope that someday, we'll beat it

Most movies are completely different from their books. I think the movie ended the way the book should have. I cried forever after reading it too, I LOVED the book, but the end ruined it for me.
