The Thing is all wrong!

He looks great. They really captured the look of the Thing. BUT...
The voice, accent and personality are all wrong. They took the New York out of him -accent, attitude and background. Ben Grimm is a product of the lower East side of NY. To us in the know that means something. The producers should have watched a few movies of the Bowery Boys to get the idea. See, e.g., https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=P6IwcnZlh2Y
His accent and attitude are completely wrong, as is the quality of his voice. The Thing is not high-pitched and nasal.
The Roger Corman movie Thing was actually a lot closer to capturing the character correctly. So were those otherwise cringey movies from the 2000s.
This Thing looks so good; what a wasted opportunity.

Believe it or not, very little CGI in this movie for The THING which surprised me that is a latex mask and covering for his head with the rocks already on it

reply

nah, it looks stupid, too

I don't know, maybe I'm just to used to the old-school 70s cartoons....but I agree. The voice and mannerisms seemed all off to me as well. I really can't see this version saying "It's clobbering time!"

'I really can't see this version saying "It's clobbering time!"'

In this day and age they'll probably change it to 'It's time for a really stern talking to!'.

AI Slop-adjacent. Maybe it is unfinished, but it needs work.

I would even say Michael Chiklis got his voice right too in the other 2 movies, plus, the THING is like normal height in this and not imposing in the least like in the ULTIMATES version which would be the 2016 movie of the THING. I mean this is a character that has thrown down with the HULK in the comics and granted he gets the short end of the stick most of the time, but he's also much larger

reply

Nope. In the comics Ben is no taller than Reed and tops out at 500 lbs. The Hulk in the comics is 1,000 lbs.
I don't know about, and don't give two shits about, the ultimate versions. Nothing after 1986 counts.
