Anyone else feel this film was a remake of Walt Disney´s Dumbo?

However I enjoyed this chick flick. Good to watch with your wife. Later I remembered what was familiar, there are several characters copied from Dumbo, and the general line of the screenplay, too.

Uh...Dumbo had humongous ears and flew...and was a cartoon...the movie was disturbing...other than an elephant and a circus, nothing in common.

reply

The elephant was initially a disturbance and after was the circus savior... I remember the circus owners were pretty much the same in both movies. Anyway, it was just a humoured review.

I always thought of this book/movie as the ugly (probably more realistic) version of The Greatest Show on Earth.

reply

Interesting take. I'll call it The Greatest Show on Earth meets Titanic. It copied the exact same formula for the love story from Titanic, with very slight tweaks. I think that was deliberate.

I haven't seen this film and from the trailers, I got that
ole Walt Disney dread feeling again. Bambie, Dumbo, Old Yeller. Now that I'm older I'm beginning to wonder if he liked kids at all - ha! There were others but I don't want to "spoil" it for anyone. SO, thankfully if I do watch this film I'll have my finger on the remote.

fransiscocastro, you and I must have seen two different movies. Other than the aforementioned elephant and circus, nothing else the same. Don't know what you saw.

Other than the elephant using his big ears to fly, what else was similar about the two movies?

Sometimes I honestly cannot tell if people are posting here in sincerity or in sarcasm or in silly humor/bad joke or if they truly want to be taken at face value. Since many people have different and frequently varied and quite often extreme opinions, I often take people at face value unless it is patently clear that they are seriously joking.

You would be surprised the odd and unusual topics I was asked to compare and contrast while at university. Some people may have thought some of those topics were a "joke", or were meant to be humorous. They weren't. I can see how the OP could approach this topic either seriously, that they really see a parallel between the stories, or they just meant a humorous resemblance between the films.
