Doesn't connect well with the end of Halloween Kills

Literally at the end of Kills Michael kills Karen, Laurie is on the phone, Michael picks it up and Laurie exclaims "I'm coming for you Michael" like shes gonna go full on Sarah Connor mode to get revenge for her daughter in the next movie.

But then in Halloween Ends it picks up years later, Laurie's baking pies, decorating for Halloween, happy as can be, trying to get Alison into the Halloween spirit and to go to a party. And Karen's death is a complete after thought and Laurie doesn't give a single fuck.

Just feels like a new set of writers was hired for this movie with no idea of how the last movie ended and they just did their own thing with it.

Danny McBride & David Gordon Green were involved in the writing of all three entries of this new 'blumhouse Halloween trilogy'.

The truth is they didn't have a clue what to do. They had an idea for the first, which could have served as the final entry to the franchise, then when that was a huge hit they decided to do two more and absolutely winged it.

This is a fake trilogy. Was never meant to be one. The first served it's purpose as a finale and the other two were DGG and crew just making shit up as they went along so that everyone could line their pockets.

Coming up on the one year anniversary of this abomination.

It's just sad. The disrespect for the franchise and its fans.

It's such a poor movie !!!

reply

Yeah they just scrapped Kills altogether (and nothing of value of lost). Honestly the movie is closer to some Thorne spin-off

that ending is in the Extended Cut, not the theatrical release. I believe before covid shutdowns all three movies were going to take place on the same night.

Regardless the ending still leaves you with Karen's death and you'd generally assume Laurie would want revenge and to finally go kill him. Whatever ending you watch Halloween Ends completely disregards it as if it never happened and Laurie as a character feels completely reset and nothing like she was in the previous 2 movies.

That's because her visión of Michael changed during the night of 2018 and after that trauma she learned to pass on and let the fear and obsessión leave her... It's called character development and fortunately this saga has It, even with Michael himself.

reply

Yeah right after he murders your daughter, good time to move on and let it go even though he's still on the loose. It was stupid, she was obsessed and crazy from him killing a few of her friends 40 some years ago, but he murders her daughter and its all good and shes fine.. It was stupid.

after watching the three movies I felt that Laurie's attitude in Ends should have been her attitude in 2018/Kills: 40 years, has moved on, feeling good, etc. Then after 2018/Kills she becomes obsessive over the next 4 years.

Exactly, it would've made way more sense.

It made sense to me. She had her granddaughter to take care of. The best thing she could do for her was to help her move on and live her life. If she had fixated on revenge and killing him like she did in the first movie what would happen to her granddaughter? Who would take care of her?

That aspect of the movie made perfect sense to me. Other aspects did not.
